Every year, as excited as I am for Christmas, I'm even more excited about Advent. The four weeks that lead up to celebrating Christ's birth are a time of expectant waiting and preparation for his coming, and I cherish them. "Advent" comes from a Latin word for "coming," and even though we know the Christmas story well, it's a time to reflect on his coming and prepare for it in new ways. Many churches light candles and read the Christmas story in Scripture as a way to center our hearts on Christ in this season, and this year, we have created a four-week Advent guide as a helpful devotional tool for your personal quiet times.

For these next four weeks, we invite you to reflect on the peace that comes from Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Christ came to our world on a holy night, a peaceful night, and he alone is the source of our peace. In a world that can often feel hurried and hurting and hopeless, we draw close to our Heavenly Father and cling to the peace we find in him.

COMING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT, we catch a glimpse of of ignorance of any knowledge about God. The scholarly of the world in the first century were the Athenian intellectuals. Some of them encountered the Apostle Paul in Athens.

Then certain philosophers of Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, what will this babbled say? Other some, HE seemeth to be a setter firth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection. And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus atop Mars Hill, saying, Maybwe knowcwhat this new doctrine, wereof thou speakest, is?

Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars Hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions objects of worship Revised Standard Version, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth....He giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on ...the earth....for in him we live, and move, and have our being... Acts17:18-19, 22-26, 28. 

And now what of the scholarly of our western world today? One would think, the most highly educated ought to know WHO and WHAT GOD is! Suppose you ask at random 100 university dean's, Do you believe in God? PERHAPS THREE OR FOUR WOULD ANSWER, OH I BELIEVE IN THE EXISTENCE OF GOD AS A FIRST CAUSE. But they cannot tell you WHO and WHAT GOD IS! They cannot tell you what God is like! God is not real to them. In other words, he is a mystery. Perhaps another six or eight of the hundred will admit they are agnostics they do not know for sure whether God exists.

I have said that education has become a matter of memory installation. From elementary grades to higher graduate levels of study , our educational system inject ready-made concepts, ideologies and a mixture of facts and fables into the unsuspecting minds of children, youths and young adults. Students in our school systems are graded according to how well they accept, memorize and can recite or write in tests what has been taught whether true or false. 

Modena education has given universal acceptance to the fable of evolution. Evolution is the agnosticism or atheist's attempt to explain the existence of a creation without the preexistente of the Creator. It removes God from the picture. It blinds itself to the mystery by attempting to remove God altogether.

Without God, we are  unfulfilled, even in our carnal life no matter how high we live. We are not at peace with our fellow man because we are not at peace with ourselves. We are restless  because we have no peace from God. The pursuit of pleasure for pleasure’s sake was a sign of inner turmoil. Pleasure seekers have found over and over that  temporary diversions in life give way to a deeper despair. The nagging feeling that “something is wrong” may be deadened for a while but never leaves.

King Solomon, the wisest and richest man of his time, gave himself to a pursuit of all this world had to offer, and he recorded his findings in the book of Ecclesiastes. Solomon testified  that pleasure and wealth are futile (2:4-11).

 4 "I made my works great, I built myself houses, and planted myself vineyards. 5 I made myself gardens and orchards, and I planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. 6 I made myself water pools from which to water the growing trees of the grove. 7 I acquired male and female servants, and had servants born in my house. Yes, I had greater possessions of herds and flocks than all who were in Jerusalem before me. 8 I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the special treasures of kings and of the provinces. I acquired male and female singers, the delights of the sons of men, and musical instruments of all kinds. 9 So I became great and excelled more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also my wisdom remained with me.10 Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure,  For my heart rejoiced in all my labor; And this was my reward from all my labor. 11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.

Solomon concludes that life is God’s gift and the only wise way to live is to fear God: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).

THE CARES OF THE FLESH

In other words, there is more to life than the physical dimension. Jesus stresses this point when He says, “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Not bread (the physical) but God’s Word (the spiritual) keeps us alive. It is useless for us to search within ourselves for the cure to all our miseries. Man can only find life and fulfillment when he acknowledges God.

Without God, man’s destiny is hell. The man without God is spiritually dead; when his physical life is over, he faces eternal separation from God called the second death!. In Jesus’ narrative of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31), the rich man lives a pleasurable life of ease without a thought of God, while Lazarus suffers through his life but knows God. It is after their deaths that both men truly comprehend the gravity of the choices they made in life. The rich man realized, too late, that there is more to life than the pursuit of wealth. Meanwhile, Lazarus is comforted in paradise. For both men, the short duration of their earthly existence paled in comparison to the permanent state of their souls.

ETERNITY IS IN OUR HEART : WE ARE NOT ZOMBIES CHOSEN BY GOD! OUR HAND EXTENDED TO GOD AND GODS HAND WAS ALREADY THERE!

Man is a unique creation. God has set a sense of eternity in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11), and that sense of timeless destiny can only find its fulfillment in God Himself. People have testified that while they achieved their material goals of wealth, relationships, and pleasures, there was still a deep void inside, a feeling of emptiness that nothing seemed to fill.The author of the biblical book of Ecclesiastes describes this feeling when he says:

“ Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher;  “ Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” (Ecclesiastes 1:2).

King Solomon had wealth beyond measure, wisdom beyond any man of his time or ours, hundreds of women, palaces and gardens that were the envy of kingdoms, the best food and wine, and every form of entertainment available. He said at one point that anything his heart wanted, he pursued.

Solomon said “life under the sun”—life lived as though all there is to life is what we can see with our eyes and experience with our senses—is meaningless. Why is there such a void? .....Because God created us for something beyond what we can experience in the here-and-now, and concluded:

Ecclesiastes 3: "11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, ..."

The disciples ought to have recognized Jesus, they had heard His voice so often, and gazed upon that marred face so frequently, that it is amazing that they did not know Him. Yet is it not so with you also? Have you seen Jesus lately? You have been to His table—and you have not met Him there. You are in a dark trouble, and though He plainly says, "It is I—do not be afraid," yet you do not recognize Him. Alas! our eyes are blinded! We know His voice; we have looked into His face; we have leaned our head upon His bosom—and yet, though Christ is very near us, we are saying, "O that I knew where I might find Him!"

We should know Jesus, for we have the Scriptures to reflect His image. Yet how frequently we open that precious book—and have no glimpse of our Well-beloved! Dear child of God, are you in that state? Jesus walks through the glades of Scripture, and desires to commune with His people. Yet you are in the garden of Scripture—but cannot see Him, though He is always there!

Make it your prayer, "Lord, open my eyes—that I may see my Savior present with me!" It is a blessed thing to desire to see Him. But oh! it is better far to gaze upon Him! To those who seek Him—He is kind; but to those who find Him—He is precious beyond expression!

I should have known that Thankfulness would be a good subject for this holiday. There are many places in scripture that give us a look into what GOD thinks about HIS children being thankful and I thought I would start in Psalms and then move into the New Testament...........

The Bible says in John: 3:16:17: For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it. LB

Condemnation comes when one rejects Jesus Christ the Only Begotten of the Father.

John: 3:18:19: says: “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. NKJV

It’s so sad for one to reject Jesus Christ for the things of this world.

TODAY Jesus Christ is asking you these solemn questions: “And how does a man benefit if he gains the whole world and loses his soul in the process? For is anything worth more than his soul? Mark: 8:36:37. Selah

1John: 2:15:17: says: Stop loving this evil world and all that it offers you, for when you love these things you show that you do not really love God; for all these worldly things, these evil desires—the craze for sex, the ambition to buy everything that appeals to you, and the pride that comes from wealth and importance—these are not from God. They are from this evil world itself. And this world is fading away, and these evil, forbidden things will go with it, but whoever keeps doing the will of God will live forever.

Many think there are no such places as Heaven and Hell.

There is a Heaven and there is a Hell, and a regular old-fashioned Hell, the kind the Bible talks about. (See: Luke: 16:19:31)

Mark: 9:48 says: Where their worm Dieth not, and the Fire is not Quenched. Selah

If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, I will ask you to do so right away as tomorrow may be too late for you.

James: 4:13:14 says: Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

REPENT OF YOUR INIQUITY TODAY! REPENT OF YOUR USE OF satanic powers BEHIND THE PULPIT TODAY! RETURN TO THE LORD GOD IN REPENTANCE TODAY!

#THE FIRES OF HELL ARE REAL AND ETERNAL! EVEN AFTER A 1000 ZILLION YEARS IN HELL FIRE, HELL FIRE WILL JUST HAVE BEGUN AND YOU WILL STILL BE THERE BURNING AND REAPING THE FRUITS OF YOUR WICKEDNESS. SELAH.

FLEE FROM THE WRATH TO COME! RETURN TO THE LORD GOD IN REPENTANCE NOW BEFORE YOU BURN ETERNALLY IN THE LAKE OF FIRE!!!

Hebrews:10:31 says: It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Selah

You must repent today of your sinful life and wicked way before you get drunk with the cup of the Lord's wrath!!! Selah

If you are not born again, you are still living in iniquity in Christ Jesus, you are a satanist or you belong to occult groups come to God in repentance NOW; if you have sold your soul to the devil for worldly materials, fame, money and financial gain come to God in repentance NOW; if you are in Christ Jesus, but leading a sinful and double life, come to God in repentance NOW; if you are gay or lesbian come to God in repentance NOW by praying with meaning in your heart: God be merciful to me, a sinner. I repent now of all my sins and turn from them, trusting you to wash them away in the Blood Jesus shed on the Cross. Make me a new creation in Christ Jesus, and give me power to live for You from this day forward. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

If you meant the prayer in your heart congratulations, you are NOW a child of God, and your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Remember having a personal relationship with Jesus means you will need to spend time with Him in prayer and regular Bible study. To know more about your new friend Jesus Christ, you need to plug into a good Bible believing Church. A Bible believing Church is one that believes in the truth of the Bible and practices the teachings of Jesus in our daily walk.

Meditate on these scriptures (Romans: 5:8:11, 1John:5:11:13; John: 17:3), and Pray accordingly.

MATERIAL CREATION SEEMS REAL

The creation is material, visible, and therefore seems real. The system of modern education has become entirely materialistic. The modern scientific concept denies the invisible and the spiritual as having existence. Yet all our seemingly unsolvable problems and evils in this world are spiritual in nature. 

I quote above from the first chapter of the book of Romans. Thec28th verse says, ... they did not like to retain God in their knowledge. Little or nothing is taught about God, but even in the elementary grades the basic concept the APPROACH to knowledge is evolution.

Is it any wonder, then, that the scholarly do not know WHO Or WHAT God is? They believe what they have been taught. 

I am not condemning or judging these people and I presume they are as well-meaning as any people. God is not judging them NOW as I shall explain later. Neither is HE condemning them. He loves them and will call them all to eternal salvation in His own time. But they DO NOT know WHO and WHAT GOD is.

In ancient Egypt they worshipped the gods ISIS and Osiris. The Greeks and Romans anciently had mythological gods such as Jupiter, Hermes, Dionysus, Apollo, Diana and many others. But they did not know, and their people do not know today, WHO and WHAT GOD is. But WHY?

When your life is done, and you look back those last few weeks or months that you have before cancer, or heart or respiratory problems overtake you - will you regret these days of your marriage and family? Will you be saddened when you remember these days? Will you be saddened when you see what your children are doing? Or will these have been the greatest years of your life? I think the choice is yours. Where are you headed in your marriage and as a family today? You will never get to anywhere you are not headed right now!

Look with me at Ps. 127-128 where we find the inspired sketch of the beautiful stages of God's work at growing a wonderful marriage and family. As we look, ask yourself: Is this what I want? Is this what I have? Is this worth changing areas of my personal life to accommodate God's Word and my response?

Psalm 127:1-2 A NO REGRET FAMILY IS CAREFUL to lay a Godly foundation: "Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep."

Psalm 127:3-5 A NO REGRET FAMILY IS CAREFUL Trust God for blessed fruitfulness: "Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate."

Psalm 128:1-4 A NO REGRET FAMILY Enjoys a happy family life: "Blessed is every one who fears the Lord, Who walks in His ways. When you eat the labor of your hands, You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine In the very heart of your house, Your children like olive plants All around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed Who fears the Lord."

Psalm 128:5-6 A NO REGRET FAMILY Enjoys the fulfillment of a godly family that is satisfying IN old age: "The Lord bless you out of Zion, And may you see the good of Jerusalem All the days of your life. Yes, may you see your children's children. Peace be upon Israel!" And as the Apostle John said at the end of his life in 3 John 4 that the supreme earthly joy we can ever experience is when we see our family following the Lord! "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth."

Quite a promise - what an opportunity to have such a rare and precious home. And that is exactly what the Lord offers to us today.

Today's Thoughts: Be on God’s Side

The word of the LORD came to me: "Son of man, set your face against the Ammonites and prophesy against them.  Say to them 'Hear the word of the Sovereign LORD. This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because you said "Aha!" over my sanctuary when it was desecrated and over the land of Israel when it was laid waste and over the people of Judah when they went into exile, therefore I am going to give you to the people of the East as a possession.'" - >Ezekiel 25:1-4

In the first half of the book of Ezekiel, God rebukes His people for their attitudes toward Him. The Lord uses words like stubborn, hard-hearted and rebellious to describe His people. The Lord speaks through Ezekiel and tells the people to understand that their choices come with consequences. If they make good and righteous choices that honor God, they will be blessed. If they make poor and wicked choices that honor themselves, they will be punished. As the story continues, the reader knows what choice the Israelites made because God starts talking about the judgment that is to come upon them.

In Chapters 25-27, God redirects His message and begins proclaiming judgment on the nations that punished the Israelites. God warned His people to turn from their sins and to turn back to Him. They did not heed the warnings and God allowed the other nations to invade Israel (just as He said would happen). But then God judged the nations that came against His people because they did not show respect towards the Lord or towards His people during their captivity. That is amazing.

If you are God's child, He desires that you walk with Him and love Him with your whole heart. If you do not, you will not lose your salvation but you will have to live with the consequences of making bad choices. Those consequences are usually inflicted upon us by other people. But those people will not get off easy in their unjust deeds and prideful attitudes towards you. They, too, will have to suffer the consequences for how they deal with you, God's child. God is always on your side. He wants you to walk with Him and He will go out of His way to warn you. God is amazing. I always want to be on His side for He always gets the last word.

Isaiah 63:4

For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.

For further study - Isaiah 63:1-6 & 61:1-2

In order to understand the harshness of this passage in Isaiah 63 you need to know some of the background of the passage.

The "day of vengeance" referred to by the Lord, speaking through the Prophet Isaiah, must be understood by looking back to Isaiah 61:1-2. This is the passage that Jesus Christ was asked to read in the synagogue in Nazareth, Luke 4:16-21.

In Dr Luke's record of Jesus in the synagogue you'll notice that our Lord did not finish verse 2, of Isaiah 61. The part He left out was, "and the day of the vengeance of our God, to comfort all that mourn", Isaiah 61:2b.

In our key verse, verse 4, Isaiah has recorded the prophetic words of the Lord, revealing, before the fact, what the Lord will say in the day described by our devotional passage for today.

Isaiah asked two questions, the first in verse 1, "Who is he that cometh from Edom, from Bozrah?" This is the geographical location of Petra in southern Jordan. To this question the Lord responds with, "I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save".

In verse 2 the second question, "Why is his apparel stained with 'red' like him that treadeth in the winefat?" The Lord responds to this question, verse 3, "I have trodden the winepress alone". The Lord said, their blood will be sprinkled upon His garments, "for the day of his vengeance is come," verse 4. It is in verse 4 that the Lord finishes the thought of Isaiah 61:2.

This prophetic account is what will happen after the Lord goes to the Jezreel Valley at the time of the "Battle of Armageddon." After all the enemies are destroyed by Jesus Christ, He makes the trip to Petra, traveling the 176 miles predicted by John in Revelation 14:19-20.

The blood rises as high as the "horse bridles" for that trip. The blood comes from the bodies of the hundreds of millions of men who die on the "battle field". This will be a terrible time in history.

By the way, it is 176 miles from Megiddo in the Jezreel Valley to the entrance of Petra, the place "prepared by God" to protect the Jewish people in the last three and a half years in the Tribulation Period, Revelation 12:6.

This is the end time scenario of this terrible time of the end and the death of those who follow Satan instead of Jesus. It is a time when some of our loved ones may well be there because they have never trusted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

What we should do, now that we understand these prophetic truths, is warn our loved ones, and in fact everybody, of this terrible time of judgment ahead and invite them to trust in Jesus Christ today before it's eternally too late.

We should not just study this for knowledge but for that which will motivate us to warn others of the coming time of judgment, and then lead them to Jesus Christ.

PRAYER THOUGHT: Help me Lord to learn so that I can warn the lost before it's eternally too late.
