As believers, It wasn't because we Confessed our sins, that we obtained forgiveness.
It wasn't because we said we are sorry, was the reason He forgave us.
It wasn't because we cried and showed Remorse ,was the reason we obtained forgiveness.
In fact what the Book of James said(James 1:9) was to make our conscience come alive once again before God.
We are forgiven even before we Confessed sins before the Father.
The reason we are forgiven was because Jesus' blood is sitting on the Mercy seat in the tabernacle not made with human hands ie in Heavenly sanctuary.
Colossians 1:14 and Ephesians 1:7 said same :
In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Hebrews 9:22 (KJV Strong's)

22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission(pardon, forgiveness).
Let me summarize the details.
*In the Old testament, the day of Atonement was when the shedding of blood was done every year to atone for the Sins of the children of Israel. (Leveticus 16:34)
*There were two goats (one upon who the Lord's lot fell and the goat of escape) used in this practice. (Leveticus 16:8-10)
*The first was to killed and blood taken into the Holiest of all, behind the veil. The blood is applied on the Mercy seat only the High priest. (Leveticus 16:14-15)

Jesus is the Highest Priest of good things that have come, by a greater things and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands.
According to the old testament, the blood of goats and Bulls that was sprinkled on the mercy seat was a sin offering and for every year their sins are covered and without the sprinkling of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins.
The blood of Bulls and goats could not take away sins. But by His own blood He entered once into the Holy place, having obtained Eternal redemption for us. He washed away the Sins into the sea of forgetfulness.
His blood is still seating on the Mercy seat Eternally which He entered once and for all by His own blood and settled the issues of sins.
When a man therefore believes and receives the Gospel, He has received forgiveness and remission of sins Eternally.
God has already forgiven us all our sins as seen in Ephesians 4:32, Romans 4:7, Colossians 2:13 etc.
We now have access unto the Mercy seat by His blood. Now we can obtain mercy and find Grace to help in the time of need.
In spite of His Grace we have received , we shouldn't abuse it rather we should harness it for better.
Thank you Jesus for the forgiveness of sins.
