We are told in First Peter 3:15 to always be ready to give sound and good reasons for your faith and P. We call it Christian Apologetics. It is in no way "apologizing" for our faith but it defends it. Everyone who is out in the world sharing the Gospel (and we all are commanded to) then you need to learn at least some basics of it. It will help you be more effective in leading others to salvation. It's not a cure and will not work 100% of the time but if you witness to 10 people and 1 hears and believes, then you were 100% successful. Consider the parable of the talents. They may go on to lead others to the Cross of Salvation. It seems hard but download the app called "Cross Examined" on your smart phone and if you're asked a question you're not sure how to answer rightly, they can tell you what to say. It is an awesome thing to have. Oh, and carry your Bible openly. It is a very effective way of opening dialogues with others. They come to you and even if it's contentious, you never know whether what you say today will make a difference later. However, if someone just wants to wipe out your faith and are hard-hearted, it's best to just let it go. Move to those with ears dying to hear and today, there are more than you think. They want to believe, they just want a good excuse to admit what they already think. Be that person.
