Slavery as GOD ordained in the Bible.. Is not the slavery that Muslims still practice, nor the slavery practiced in America pre-Civil War. Lev. 25:38-46 God reminds Israel they were once slaves.
Eventho there were native and foreign slaves Chattel and debt slaves... There were rules concerning how they were to be treated.
It was a social safety net in today's terms. A way of paying off debts and not incurring any further debt for you or family members, while sold into debt slavery. There your debts were covered, you had food and clothing and even an education or training. You were a slave no more than 6 yrs, then you were released, if you were a male, 3 yrs if you were a wife or child of the debtor Ex. 21:2-6.
A Bondslaves or bond servant... CHOSE to stay with the family they served.... AND received an inheritance ... Along with his masters sons. The symbol that he was a bond servant was having an ear pierced to the masters door post, with an awl. This was a symbol of obedience and servitude, just like we use the heart to symbolize emotion. They in essence became family members.
So here we are instructed that in our dealings as free ppl we are not to use our freedom as an excuse to do evil... Instead we are to behave as members of God's household, which we are... Indebted, obedient, and in service to our Master. PTL.
