IT'S RAINING HOLY SPIRIT!!! BY GRACE AMBASSADORS

By Justin Johnson
“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” – 1 Corinthians 3:16
Charismatic Lanny Wolfe wrote in a popular hymn that “surely the presence of the Lord is in this place”, because “I can feel the brush of angels wings”, and “I feel that same sweet Spirit.”
Sometimes people describe the Spirit dwelling in them like a pregnant woman does her baby: “he moved inside me”; but God never says we would feel the Holy Spirit in us.
Even so, it is the lack of a feeling that often prompts prayers for him to rain on us and to come into our presence, our house, and flood us with emotion.
Perhaps the fear is that the Holy Ghost in us gets stale like an old bottle of root beer. There just isn’t any fizz after a while and it needs a good shake.
Of course this is nonsense, but it does not prevent prayers to call the Spirit down upon us like rain when people want to “feel his mighty power”.
A popular Roman Catholic prayer, Come, Holy Spirit, asks the Holy Spirit to come and “kindle a fire” in the faithful. Pentecostals are inclined to pray on any given Sunday for the Holy Spirit to “come on down” like a religious Price is Right.
“Calling down”, “welcoming”, “tarrying”, and “praying to send the Spirit” are all appeals that have been made in church buildings in anticipation that the Spirit would “fill this place”.
To all these prayers perhaps the apostle Paul would respond with:
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you…?” – 1 Corinthians 6:19
The Spirit In You
There is no reason why anyone who knows 1 Cor 3:16 and 1 Cor 6:19 should ask for the Holy Spirit to come on them when Paul plainly says the Spirit is already present in everyone that believes the gospel of salvation.
While most of Christianity pleads “Come, Holy Spirit”, perhaps we should be thankful that he stays where he’s at by God’s grace. As our ever present seal of salvation he doesn’t need to move anywhere.
“… in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” – Eph 1:13
If the Spirit dwells in us then he does not need to come down like he did at Pentecost on covenant Israel. Neither does he need to find his place in us repeatedly every new Sunday as if the the first time was ineffectual.
The Holy Spirit must slide off like water off a duck’s back if continual prayers are needed for him to be “poured out like rain”.
Instead, we need to recognize that he is present every waking (and sleeping) moment of our lives in Christ (Rom 8:9). Paul presents this truth as one very good reason why the Corinthians should shape up their behavior.
Could it be that the wrong doctrine of a distant Spirit that needs to be invited into church meetings is what produces poor manners in many charismatic meetings?
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” – 1 Cor 15:33
If you are in the body of Christ, the Spirit dwells in you. What a grievance it must be for the Spirit among so many ignorant Christians who pray for him to “Come” when he dwells in every member of the body of Christ, that is, if they have indeed heard and believed the word of truth.

STOP BLAMING THE HOLY SPIRIT! BY GRACE AMBASSADORS

This is not their official logo but one I made that is similar to theirs.

By Justin Johnson
Church folk like to blame the Holy Ghost for a lot of poor choices. For example, if you are really in a bind about a serious decision then it has traditionally been an option to flip a coin and ‘let the Holy Ghost lead’.
If you would like to call someone out on their behavior but do not want to feel a harsh response you can start with these words: “the Holy Spirit laid it on my heart to tell you…”
If you do not have the time to practice your singing, public speaking, or music, then make sure you have been ‘anointed by the Holy Spirit’ and you are guaranteed at least a small applause.
Behind the pulpit a lack of preparation can be masked by ‘letting the Holy Spirit speak this morning’.
And if you ever feel bound by the starchy feel of some sanctuaries, just let loose with a scream, whoop, bark, or loud jibber-jabber. If people look at you funny just say you have been ‘slain in the Spirit’. They will understand that the Holy Ghost has broad shoulders and will always take the blame.
But in all reality, such behavior must sorely grieve him who searches all things even the deep things of God (1 Cor 2:10).
The Holy Ghost resides within you as the temple of God. He is not your babysitter or scapegoat.
Likewise we can all read about the supernatural power that came from those filled with the Holy Ghost at Pentecost. Yet this does not mean that the Holy Ghost is operating the same today.
Jesus told his disciples:
“Take no thought how or what thing ye shall answer or what ye shall say. For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say. ” – Luke 12:12
There was no time for these men to train. The end was near, the kingdom was coming, and they were the remnant who were going into the New Jerusalem.
Yet there has since been a change in the way God operates with man. With the kingdom postponed and Israel fallen Paul was told to teach, preach, and study. He teaches Titus how to handle the opposition:
“Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.” – Titus 1:9
It is necessary for us to be taught, to train, and to study to shew ourselves approved as workman unto God (2 Tim 2:15).
So next time you feel like blaming the Holy Ghost for your poor decisions; Don’t!  Take responsibility for your choices and start truly serving the Lord with some good work.
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. ” – Gal 6:7

THE DANGER OF DENOMINATIONS & FALSE TEACHERS - BY ABALONEKID

KNOW YOUR BIBLE: CRITICAL BIBLE BASED FACTS

One who teaches a  professing believer must show a sign gift to prove they are saved in addition to their belief of the Gospel of Jesus Christ  has adulterated the Gospel by adding to it something man must do! (example: speak in tongues)  and is a heretic and false teacher who is not saved because they have rejected the Gospel of Jesus Christ by adding a condition man must fulfill (like Baptism) or show a sign gift (like tongues)  or any other sign. (INQUIRE OF THEIR DOCTRINE!)

To add anything to the Gospel is anathema to God!  Think of it. By doing so one denies the word of God and the grace of God to save all depending on Jesus Christ and His Gospel. ONLY ONE CONDITION MUST BE FULFILLED IN THE LOST SINNER: BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST BY THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST. And that Gospel is what we believe and share and we will not add anything else.

Associating with any ministry in any way that is a ministry God rejects such as one that insists God requires  good works of the lost person and attaches this to belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ as a requirement of salvation is a heresy and should never be supported in any way but, contrariwise, that person who teaches such a heresy should be advised of their false teaching before one discontinues their fellowship with them. Gal. 1:6-9

The "doctrine" of Jesus Christ IS the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

2 John 9-11
9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
THE BIBLE BASED ESSENTIALS OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

May God richly bless you for the Glory of God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord through your faithful and true offering to the lost sinner in perilous times for the salvation of their soul whom God has called to believe. They are the "whosoever believes" we may never know until we meet them at the throne of Almighty God in eternity.

JESUS CHRIST, THE AUTHOR AND FINISHER OF "THE FAITH" THAT SAVES

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.Philippians 2:8

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, conceived by the power of God through the Spirit of God, without sin nor sin nature, was born of a virgin, began His ministry at about 30, being Emmanuel, God with us, as prophesied in the Old Testament, the Son of God and perfect man;

lived His whole life in the will of God, and fullness of the Holy Spirit, in sinless obedience,

“For he (God) hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21.

and served God His Father 3 years, loved the lost, was crucified and shed His sinless blood to pay for the judgment of our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures, and is the Savior of all believing sinners,

that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life, which belief is appointed by Almighty God through His unmerited grace by faith given us to repent and believe God, and recognize our sinful state by the convicting ministry of God the Holy Spirit, and the eternal consequence of dying in sin (themselves choosing to go to Hell and the Lake of Fire in sins) and desire to live our new life in God for the Glory of God;

"For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God - Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

We are saved by the grace of God alone, through faith alone God gives us to believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and nothing else.

BEWARE OF ANOTHER GOSPEL!
Remember this! Nothing we do including Baptism can be a condition of salvation!  Baptism is an act of affirming in public, after we are saved,  our belief in the finished salvation in Christ in us by means of He alone as this study sets forth.
A CURSED TEACHER OR ORGANIZATION
If anything WE do or don't do (BUT BELIEVE THE GOSPEL), or any "sign gift" we must exhibit after salvation, is taught as  a condition attached to the authenticity of our salvation it is cursed and is "another gospel" God hates! Galatians 1: 6-9

"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." John 10:28

"That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10

NOPE, ERRORS AND CONTRADICTIONS IN THE BIBLE DEBUNKED....WRETCHED

Very short video on how to explain to unbelievers who they are in error when they say the Bible is error-filled.  My answer to them is this who say it's a myth because it does mention unicorns.  As a 6 year old child who loved the mythological "unicorns," even I knew they were talking about a rhino or something similar.  How come a 6 year old can clearly see the truth but a grown adult thinks Christians believe in horse-like animals with a horn that prances through the forest but can't be seen?  Open your eyes, world!  God bless!

FAIR AND BALANCED NEWS OF KJV ONLY AND NEWER VERSIONS

In the day where we hear "fair and balanced news" vs. "fake news networks," I don't want to be misleading but fair.  So, here is another man's POV on the KJV only version but I stand firm that for me, the KJV is the only Bible I read.  However, I cannot dictate to others what is right for them.  My POV is this, if you leave off just one verse, you've distorted God's Word BUT do we not misinterpret many scriptures ourselves?  I am warning you though, I'm not sure what this man is saying.  He brings up some interesting points to consider when deciding which version you read, I'm not sure where he stands and not sure he does either.  So, to be fair I'll share this.  Pray on it and be a good Berean, check the scriptures to see if things are true.  Just think on one point, would you choose to read the Jehovah's Witness Bible that admits it's not inspired and radically changes the Bible?  See if your version changes what was read and believed since at least 1611 when we got the Authorized KJV.  It's just in the last 50 or so years, it hasn't been "good enough."  Just think about it and whatever version you choose, make sure you know the true and only Gospel of Salvation in First Corinthians 15:1-11.  We can be wrong on many things but not on this most crucial doctrine.  It is the Best News Ever!  God bless and definitely not judging anyone on the version they read and would love to hear of any positive things you discovered.  Just be aware of the fallacies and remember, even the KJV is just the closest to the original text as possible.  God bless!  Shabbat Shalom!

This drags on and is kind of boring but listen or not at your decision.  I can't watch anymore!  Let me know if he ever states his stance on this, please!

WHY I AM A "KJV" ONLY BIBLE BELIEVER

I've read the NKJV and while I saw nothing of major differences and mine has some awesome parallel verses so I use it as a reference at times.  However, understanding the KJV is not difficult.  When you start leaving off God's Name and Jesus Christ from His own book, well, that bothers me.  Take out a whole verse, that is a huge deal to me (Acts 8:37).  I see watered-down Gospel and doctrines.  I believe God, not man nor do I trust man.  They change (science and philosophy) constantly but God's Word stands forever.  He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow so maybe instead of rewriting the Bible, how about rereading it.  God bless but let every man be fully convinced in his own mind.  If you view this video, you may agree or disagree, and that's okay so long as you don't let it lead you astray and I'd also recommend reading both concurrently to see for yourself.  I did and that's why I am an Authorized KJV reader only.  I use dictionaries and concordances as well as Hebrew/Greek concordances if I need clarification.  I don't think reading one of these new Bibles if you get stuck and need some direction but I do believe what I say.  Be grounded in the Word!  God bless.

Man has changed our Bible, that is a fact.  The JW Bible admits that their Bible is not "inspired" so are these new revised Bibles inspired or rewritten by man?  You decide and God bless!

HAL LINDSA\EY REPORT - DEMONIC VIDEO GAME EPIDEMIC

I haven't shared anything by him nor do I know much about him so it's up to you whether to view or not.  He speaks on the late Billy Graham and some things that may shock you.  For a false prophet, as many call him, he sure had a lot right.  This speaks on suicide, gaming and drug addiction, suicide and a lot of problems we have today.  I recommend watching this no matter what denomination you are.  Honestly, I'm tired of researching pastors because no matter who they are, they are on a list of "false prophets" from random unknown people.  Love or hate Billy Graham but I am choosing not to judge him.  I believe he made errors, as well do.  But even if he went off what we think his path should have been, maybe God knew better than us.  God bless and you really need to watch this.

WARNING TO THE SHEEP!

By no means is this inspired writing but I do feel very compelled to write you to warn you of what is going on today.  Wolves are rampant in the church.  I think we have more of them than actual men of God.

I just saw 3 very disturbing videos that I listened to for as long as I could stand it (which wasn't long) and felt very weird.  One is that the Apostle Paul is the false prophet or anti-Christ that Jesus Christ is referring to in Revelation 2:2.  This comes from Islam and the Hebrew Roots Movement so consider the source but others are picking up on it and are making these videos that to me sound so heretical and blasphemous that I feel I need to get baptized, not for salvation but to get the filth of their words off my body.  I want their words out of my head but in order to get a brain operation, you must have one, lol.  Just trying to lighten things up a little because this is serious stuff and can definitely cause new believers or weak older Christians to become deceived.  I personally wouldn't recommend you watching them unless you are very grounded in the Word and are secure.  Use discernment and realize they are destroying the very foundation of our faith that the Bible is inerrant, infallible and the inspired Word of God.  If Paul is a false prophet, what he taught was a lie, then the Bible is not perfect.  Think about that.

Another that is just so outlandish I'm baffled.  He says there is no proof whatsoever that Jesus Christ was crucified and, in fact, His "twin" took His place on the cross and the resurrection was a fake.  The title of this video is "the Crucifixion is a false flag."  Wow.  I would suggest he listen to Lee Stroebel's "A Case for Christ" and to do some more research because there is more "secular" proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed, became THE most influential Man/God who lived and was crucified.  Jewish writings also uphold the crucifixion as well as does the Jewish Talmud.  Letters written to Caesar by Pontious Pilate afterward also uphold it.  Archaeologists have found 2 sites that by records of the tomb in which He was buried.  One is owned and made into a great and awesome museum-type place by the Roman Catholic Church, very fancy and ornamental.  The other is just a peaceful garden and this tomb was found not too long ago when the owners of the house did renovations and found the tomb.  Using the Bible and other info it appears this is the most likely burial place of Jesus Christ.  It even shows signs of it being sealed by the Romans and what is also amazing is that the resting place was for a man of around 5'10" but it shows that it had to be enlarged very quickly to fit a man of about 6'0" to 6'1" (but I could be wrong on the exact heights).  It is now just a garden where people go and is said that it's one of the most peaceful, tranquil places on earth.  The beauty and simplicity is amazing.  You can find this on YouTube.  Now, it doesn't say it IS the burial place of Jesus but it fits perfectly with the Biblical account.  There's much more evidence but I don't remember.  I'll try to find it and leave a link to it.

Last, but not least, is there's a man who is gaining a lot of followers that claim that the God of the OT is really satan.  The serpent wasn't satan but rather God.  Or something like that.  He says no loving God would require a blood sacrifice or kill people who disobeyed Him.  This to me shows a lack of Christianity 101 and the OT.  Now, I admit I didn't know this until I really started reading the Bible about 5 years ago but I wouldn't really read the Old Testament because my beloved Savior, Jesus Messiah, was not in there.  Go ahead and laugh, I think it's hilarious myself.  That's how ignorant of the Bible I was.  Now, I believed it but on faith alone but had no desire to understand it at all.  The truth is, the OT is about one single event and one only.  One message!  The message is even before Christ was born, pre-Christ saints were saved by grace, not the law ("and Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness).  The law or 10 Commandments hadn't even been written yet.  The event was about the birth of His Only Son and everything in the OT points to the NT.

I admit I had issues with God's wrath at times and why it's so different now.  While I do not endorse the SDA church, they do have a lot of truth but also a lot of error.  When I asked one about this, here is what he told me about why God demanded animal sacrifices.  If God was cruel, He would have required human sacrifices but no, he didn't because humans sin, animals don't.  They are blameless and have no sin.  So imagine you did something bad and you needed to repent and cover that sin.  You had to go and pick out the perfect, spotless and most of all innocent little lamb you had to go sacrifice it for what you did.  Imagine how much you loved that precious lamb.  It was your pet, your friend, sort of like our dogs and cats are today.  You had to go get it, take it and kill it.  I don't know about you but the very thought of that makes me sick and want to cry.  The guilt and shame, sadness would be overwhelming.  So, in conclusion, God didn't cause us to sacrifice animals, we did.  As the world got more and more evil and sinful, the more blood was shed but was that God's fault or ours?  It seems just like we use saved by grace and not works to continue in sin, thus crucifying Jesus over and over again.  The more we sin, the more blood falls on that cross.  Again, that's just my personal thought but it does seem to bring things into light.

Now, I'm going off script here but when I surrendered my life to Christ approximately 5 years ago, I went to a Pentacostal church and without going into details and definitely not saying that all of them are like this one, it was a very controlling church that taught solely on the book of Acts, never on the Gospels or the OT, and was abusive to the members/visitors in every way imaginable but especially Spiritually.  Now, I didn't see any evidence of sexual abuse but women were held in low esteem.  We weren't allowed to sit on the front row lest we tempt one of the pastors to "sin" by looking up our dress.  Why are we held responsible for their sin?  Oh, everybody dressed modestly there and women had to make themselves as unattractive as possible so we would not cause anyone to look upon us with lust.  I want to share something with you that my husband told me when I started wearing skirts and dresses.  He didn't like it and we got into a pretty heated argument over this because I bought into that.  I am convinced that God does not look at your outward body, your bank account or your material possessions but only at your heart and mind.  Finally, a few days after the fight, we started talking and we were out and I was wearing pants to keep from arguing again.  I asked him why he was so upset and this is what he told me and I want YOU to think about this as well.

He said that men see women who are wearing a dress as easy prey.  It's easier and quicker to pull up a dress pull down their panties cos hosiery and underwear are easily ripped and they can overpower you and rape you in less than 30 seconds.  It is way more difficult if you wear pants.  Now, if you are convicted and convinced in your heart that you must wear dresses, wear something like shorts or anything to give you a fighting chance.  I don't understand that mindset that we MUST wear dresses and never pants.  I know it's because the Apostle Paul says men should not dress like a women nor a woman like a man.

Think about it.  Back then men didn't wear pants.  They wore robes and women wore robes or gowns but were different.  This has nothing to do with being immoral but it was meant to be about not deceiving people on who you are.  Now, I wear my husband's old clothes at home.  They are comfortable and I like feeling that it keeps us connected as we are one flesh.  However, no matter whether I wear pants or a dress, I don't dress or look manly.  It is always clear that I am not deceiving anybody, that I am fully a woman, not pretending to be a man or to deceive anybody.  Not so much now but a few years ago, there was a huge difference in the way women and men dressed.  Do you see where I am going with this?  We are making our men to appear to be women in the way they dress.  I can only guess at the reason why.

Last thing I want to mention is that there are some videos circulating that claim that the Holy Spirit is a female and rather than Mary being Jesus's mother, the Holy Spirit was.  The Bible says, I think, that Jesus Christ was manifested by the Holy Spirit.  We know that He was fully God AND fully man.  Without a human female bloodline, and Him being born only by the divine, then He could not possibly have been fully man.  I'm basing this on common sense and not of anything else but am just wondering why everyone is trying to "humanize" the divine Godhead.  Jesus was born male, no doubt.  God is referred to by Jesus as His Father, obviously a masculine image.  In Galations, the last chapter and last verses say this, "We are neither Jew nor Greek; free nor bond; male nor female but ONE in Christ Jesus.  So if God is masculine, there is only ONE God made known by 3 personages (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) then they are all ONE and do they have a gender as they are not humans but divine?  Both men and women are the Bride of Christ Jesus.  There will be no marriage or giving in marriage in Heaven.  This tells me that gender to God is just the way we procreate life in His image but our new resurrected bodies will be changed and glorified.  Sex is not sinful at all but rather a gift and by our differences, through the sacred act of sexual intercourse, our bodies fit together so perfectly that through that act, we literally become one.  God created marriage and defined it.  Just because it's legal for same-sex couples to get "married" on earth does not mean they are married.  Just like heterosexual marriage, it's a legal and binding earthly contract.  Learn how the Jews were married in Biblical times and you'll have a clearer view on some parts of Revelation.

Again, my thoughts and opinions, in no way do I claim extra-Biblical revelation but I do believe the Bible, when viewed in whole, says much of what I believe.  Please point out any errors so we can talk about it.  I'd love to hear your thoughts on these issues as well.  God bless and I'll try to find that video about the tomb.  If it's not on here, well, I didn't find it, lol.

I couldn't find it but want to send this out.  Just making you aware of what's on YouTube as it can be confusing at best and apostasy at its worst with everything bad in between.  Don't go to these videos unless you are well grounded, have a rock solid foundation and have good to great discernment.  God bless and be careful, the wolves are taking over!

WAS THE APOSTLE PAUL A FALSE PROPHET? GOD FORBID!

There are many videos and articles circulating that claim the Apostle Paul was a false prophet.  I did some research on this by listening to both sides and found it comes from the Hebrew Roots Movement (you should know what this group stands for if you don't already) and by Islam.  Most also deny the deity of Jesus Christ, His resurrection and many other Christian core beliefs.  My mother always taught me to "consider the source" whenever I'm told something and when I did, I get it now.  These 2 groups are works-salvation believers and both put us under the Law.  We can't even obey 10, how can we possibly obey 613 more.  So, if you run across or are concerned about this claim, here is a link to a credible site that proves that the Apostle Paul was NOT a false prophet and his books in the Bible are inspired and infallible.  BTW, the groups claiming this also deny that the Bible is the Word of God but just another historical book written by man.  Be secure and grounded so that you cannot be deceived by the REAL false prophets.

One of the reasons they claim this is that Paul and Jesus taught 2 different things.  Jesus taught the Kingdom of God to the Jews.  Once they rejected Him, God blinded them to who He was.  How could Jesus Christ preach or teach the Cross, the mystery of His saving shed blood when He was still alive?  It had to be a mystery or else as Paul says, if they had known, it would never have been done (His crucifixion) and that is why it was hidden.  Think about it and if you have any doubts, read this article.

THE GOSPEL MESSAGE VIDEO

The only Gospel of Salvation, the completed work of Christ Jesus according to First Corinthians 15:1-4 of grace alone; faith alone; through Christ alone.  Go shine your light and be the salt of the earth!  God bless you.

This is how to truly love our brothers and sisters in Christ by leading them to the Cross of Salvation!

JESUS LOVES ME - NEW VERSION (PICTURE)

I still love the original song, even though I'm 57 years old.  Simple and sweet, a child's song but yet it says it all.  I like the words to this one too.  Our Church is rife with false doctrine, wolves and heresies.  We need to get back to worshiping Him in Spirit and truth.  We need to get the Gospel message right and lead others to salvation.  We need to stop worrying about the date of the rapture, are we in the end times and get back to doing what He commanded...our Great Commission to go out and spread the Good News to the outermost parts of the world.  Some are even saying "church" is only for the saints and we should not let sinners in but rather we are to go to them, where they live, and share the Gospel.  The reason is that church was to equip the saints by encouraging, supporting, correction and rebuking to go out and lead the lost.  Sometimes it may be necessary to kick people out of our churches.  In most ways, I disagree with this but there is some truth in it.  That's how the first Church did things and look around you the next time you attend, how many lost people are coming in to us?  Our visitors are probably new to the area or seeking a new home church for some reason, maybe even coming back to our Lord and Savior after straying.  Do we see the sinners seeking God and be honest?  I don't.  I think not allowing an unsaved person into your church is a horrible idea on many levels nor do I support that but what is breaking my heart and where I see the church failing today is I do not see US going out to where the sinners are and preaching the Gospel.  They're lost.  They don't  have the Holy Spirit to convict them to go to church unless they were once involved in it and then they may hear that small, still voice but today, that's rare.  So, we can't blame the lost when we -- the Bride of Christ -- is disobeying His commandment.  People die and will perish every single day because no one led them to the Cross.  Their blood is on our hands collectively.  So, what are we to do?  I say obey Him and if you personally cannot get out, you're not excused.  You are a member of the Body and therefore you have a special part to play.  I share my faith with everyone I meet but do I spread the Gospel?  Not all the time but well over half of the people I do get to meet are already involved in church.  We can all partake by supporting those who do go out and share the Gospel.  Oh, and Christianity is flourishing today...that's great news but the bad news is, it's not in growing at all in America, the one country you'd expect.  Oh, and I listened to a lot of testimonies yesterday about Jews all over the world are now coming Yeshua Messiah.  That is great news.  God bless and sing this little song for it has a powerful and true message.  Jesus loves you...He didn't promise you a perfect, trouble-free life.

THE GOVERNOR OF KENTUCKY NAILS THE PROBLEM IN AMERICA AND ACTUALLY HAS THE ANSWERS...ALMOST! BY WRETCHED

I gotta admit, he's right and I realize if a nonbeliever reads this, they'll laugh at me and mock me, have a lot of fun at my expense except that I don't care.  I am told to rejoice when this happens for His Name sake because they hated Him first.  Gun control, laws, regulations, banning certain things, etc. will never fix the problems we have here in America and in the world.  We need God in Heaven back in our public square, prayer in schools, creation taught as well (but preferably instead) of evolution and parents allowed to raise their children as they should be raised...with discipline, correction and authority but of course appropriately.  How many of you got your rears smacked a time or two?  Do you feel abused or loved?  Do you respect others and yourself?  Did your parents authority and discipline hurt you in any way or are you grateful they loved you enough not to let you do whatever you wanted and protected you?  Jesus Christ is THE only real and lasting answer to our problems but is it too late?  Will we repent and turn back to Almighty God?  And to all atheists who want every aspect of God wiped out of your life, please send me all of your money because the last I saw, it still says "In God We Trust."  Let me know and I'll send you my address and promise I will do much good to help humanity with the money you send because I wouldn't want you to be offended by your "god" that you worship called money.

THE SICK WORLD OF LIBERALISM BY PASTOR CHARLES LAWSON

To the best of my knowledge (and I've listened to many of his sermons) he teaches the right Gospel, right Jesus Christ so his doctrine is sound.  However, some of his opinions which he makes clear are his thoughts, not Biblical necessarily can be a little strange.  However, more often than not they make a lot of sense.  I love the way he interacts with the congregation.  I also like him for standing up for right and wrong and isn't afraid to stand for truth.  This is simply the truth about the world we are living in and our reality.  We need to start speaking out and being heard.  I feel the Church is too silent on important issues.  I don't endorse him but nor do I dismiss him.  I'm sure he's on a list of false prophets.  I quit looking people up on Google or any other search engine because not one true man of God is NOT on someone's list.  Use discernment and even if you disagree, think about what he and others say.  I think it's time we are heard.  Oh, and if you find a perfect pastor or church, let me know so I can go there.  I can't find one.  This is a good sermon.  God bless you all.

LOVE WON OUT: UNDERSTANDING FEMALE SEXUALITY (AND CHRISTIANITY)

Now, let's hear what a woman's POV is on the same issue.  She is really funny and shares her story of how she left homosexuality.  With Christ, ALL things are possible.   My heart breaks for gays as I imagine they have a very hard life.  Are we failing them as the Body of Christ?  Just always remember we are told to love others and pray for our enemies.  I don't see them as my personal enemy but they view our beliefs as an enemy to their lifestyle.  Oh, and I never once liked anyone who marched at Gay Pride Parades with signs saying "God Hates Fags."  What a misrepresentation of who we are as believers.  It's not Christian behavior nor is it true.  God hates sin, that IS why He sent us Jesus Christ and His blood was shed for gays as much as for your sins and never, ever forget that.  God bless you all.

I WAS AN APOLOGIST FOR GAY THEOLOGY (VIDEO)

I've been hearing a lot of videos by gays who are debating pastors on this issue.  Let me make a few things very clear here.  I am not a homophobe and if a gay man or woman is sitting next to me in church, I give praise and glory to Jesus Christ because that is where every sinner needs to be.  Oh, and that includes both you and me.  "There is none that does good, no, not one."  "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."  "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Do I think gays should be in positions of leadership or hold office?  No more than I do a man/woman of God who is committing adultery, a drunk/drug addict; living with instead of being married to their partner or is especially a pedophile.  Every choice we make - good and bad - have consequences and either way, we will lose something as there is always a price to pay.  If being gay, sleeping around, porn, sex, drugs, etc. is more important to you than God, then you should not be a pastor of any church.  If you were these things but have changed and repented, the blood He shed covers you as well and you are more than welcome to be my pastor.  However, even though that's a good choice, you will lose friends, your community and your lifestyle.  Depending on your job, you could lose that.  Also take into consideration that the world HATES Christians as it is and for a gay person to speak against homosexuality is like a betrayal the LGBTQ group.  They are likely to be persecuted, beat up and maybe even kill those who do this.  I don't have any statistics or articles to uphold this but I doubt I'm wrong.  But to the young man who is struggling with this and has no one to go to for Spiritual leadership, this man could literally save that man's life, especially if he's a teen.  What a great role model and mentor he can be.  I also imagine this will be a lifelong struggle for him.  We should pray for these men and women who desire more Holiness and are willing to do what God commands rather than give in to the flesh.

Furthermore, I wish the Bible gave us permission to do other things that I know are sinful.  I sure wasn't a "pure" bride on my wedding night.  I've met men I felt attracted to during my marriage.  I also imagine many men wish God approved of porn and adultery.   It seems as if the Church is willing to overlook any willful sin by leaders except homosexuals.  Here in Florida, a few years back, a Baptist Church chose to remove all children from the services because the pastor was charged with being a pedophile and they would rather keep that degenerate man because "he is such a man of God who tells the truth."  Too bad he didn't live the truth.  Who is feeding the children their Spiritual dinner and what message are you sending them?  They may not think about it too much at this young age but one day it will matter more than you know.  So what's the deal, Church and could this possibly be why we are losing more and more credibility with the world and have so many problems in the Church?  I'm not a rocket scientist but I don't need to be to see that

So, I am sharing this for those who do encounter the things this man says we will.  Be fully armed with the truth.  You best be prepared because people want real answers and are looking to you for answers.  Of course this is only intended for those who are seriously wanting to overcome and learn the truth and not to make you the laughingstock of their day.   Don't waste your time and energy but always leave them with how to contact you as many may desperately want the truth but are afraid of the fallout if they do.  However you do it, treat all people with love, respect and see them as a fallen sinner, just like the rest of us and salvation is for them too.  It's long and not for everybody but I do hope it finds its way to those who want and need this.  No judgment here...sin is sin is sin.  Remember, liars are included in that list of those who will not enter the Kingdom of God.

THE BIBLE EXPLAINED IN 3 MINUTES BY "THE BEAT" (VIDEO)

I just love this guy!  He's so upbeat and fun but most importantly, he is all Bible all the time!  No false doctrine, cult ideas, and, thank you Lord Jesus, no date setting and doom and gloom end times prophecy!  His videos are short, awesome and will help you on your journey to the Kingdom of God.  May Creator God YAHWEY bless this young man, keep him on the straight and narrow path that leads to life and never disappear from our lives.  God uses many things to encourage, rebuke, correct, equip and bring us out of deception through the Holy Spirit.  Please keep his ministry in your prayers.

GOD BLESS AND MUCH LOVE IN CHRIST JESUS...NOW GO OUT AND SHARE THAT LOVE WITH THIS UNBELIEVING WORLD.  LIVE WHAT YOU SAY.

The Cross = SALVATION

WHAT CHANGED BECAUSE JESUS DIED? BIBLE.ORG

But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (John 7:39, NASB 95)

The Question
What changed because Jesus died?
I suspect that some answer entered your head.
· What was it?
· How did it come to be there?
· How sure are you that it is correct?
Sometimes it is good to revisit settled knowledge. So think about your answer. Can you take your answer and find an Old Testament parallel? If so, can your answer be that which changed because Jesus died? Jesus was the "Word become flesh." His death must certainly have brought about fundamental and monumental changed. Does your answer have that kind of punch?

The Issue

Many New Testament truths and ideas are also Old Testament truth and ideas. But that which changed because Jesus died is both radically new and covered in the New Testament with crisp details. Strangely, it is also absent from our Christian vocabulary. I can illustrate this by using Galatians 3:2 as a good introduction to what changed and why a new analysis is needed.
The letter to the Galatian churches is commonly known to be Paul's response to Jews persuading Galatian believers to be circumcised to bring them under the Covenant of Law to receive its blessings. Paul considered this an accursed corruption of the Gospel and wrote this letter to counteract it. It is in this context that he wrote:
This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? (Galatians 3:2)
Now here is the interesting thing about this verse. Awhile ago, I began to ask people a fill-in-the-blanks question using this verse.
This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive ________ by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? (Galatians 3:2)
When I asked people to fill in the blank portion, they gave me these answers:
· Salvation - This is a good and reasonable answer. Certainly salvation comes by way of faith and not by works of the Law. Most people quickly chose this as the missing word.
· Grace or mercy - "For by grace you have been saved by faith." Perhaps grace is a better word since it is the operating principle of salvation.
· Eternal Life - The end result of salvation is eternal life.
Very few, close to none, ever responded with the word "Spirit." The only explanation for this is that somehow, the truth of salvation by faith has superseded or pushed aside the truth of the Holy Spirit. We hear the words "receive," "works of the law," and "hearing with faith" and we think "salvation" and not "Holy Spirit." But clearly for the Galatians, the Holy Spirit was very important and was something that they received by faith. For Paul, it was receiving the Holy Spirit that stands against the works of the Law. For the church to think "salvation" where Paul wrote "Spirit" is a serious defect in our understanding that keeps us from experiencing a gospel of power.

Salvation by Faith is Not New

Since the Reformation, salvation by faith alone has been the cornerstone teaching of the protestant churches. Our gospel tracts, sinner's prayers, altar calls, vacation bible schools, missions, and many other programs work hard to make this message as clear was we can. We want to save sinners. That we do so is far from wrong as shown by New Testament verses like these:
"She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21)
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16)
But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. (Galatians 3:23-25)
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
These verses and very many more like them tell us unequivocally that salvation is by faith alone. Obedience and good deeds play no part. Legalism is rightly seen as the enemy of faith. The New Testament has a clarity about the role of faith that is absent from the Old. So it is natural, good, and right to speak of salvation by faith as critical to the gospel message. The New Testament makes clear that obedience to Law and good works contribute nothing to our salvation.
But let's look at some other verses:
... Then men began to call upon the name of the Lord. (Genesis 4:26b)
Then he [Abram] believed in the Lord; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. (Genesis 15:6Galatians 3:6)
But the righteous will live by his faith. (Habakkuk 2:4b, Romans 1:17Galatians 3:11Hebrews 10:38)
And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be delivered (saved); (Joel 2:32a, Acts 2:21Romans 10:13)
But I have trusted in Your lovingkindness; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. (Psalm 13:5)
But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever. I will give You thanks forever, because You have done it, And I will wait on Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones. (Psalm 52:8-9)
The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread? (Psalm 27:1)
So while the New Testament makes clear the central role of faith in salvation, these and other verses indicate that salvation by faith is not something that changed because Jesus came and died. If Abraham was saved by faith as Genesis says and Paul repeats, then how is this something that changed when Jesus died? Furthermore, the book of Hebrews tells us unambiguously that the Old Testament saints found approval with God through their faith:
But My righteous one shall live by faith; And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him. But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul. Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval. (Hebrews 10:38-11:2)
The writer to the Hebrews quotes Habakkuk 2:4 and then goes on to tell us that by faith "men of old gained approval."
And then there is the whole of Romans chapter 4 from which I have extracted these quotes:
For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." (Romans 4:2-3)
How then was it credited? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised; and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while uncircumcised, so that he might be the father of all who believe without being circumcised, that righteousness might be credited to them, and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also follow in the steps of the faith of our father Abraham which he had while uncircumcised. (Romans 4:10-12)
But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness, just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works: "Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, And whose sins have been covered. "Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account." (Romans 4:5-8)
Romans chapter 4 underpins salvation by faith from Old Testament references. Salvation has always been by faith and was never offered as a result of obedience to the Law. Jesus' death did not usher in a new era by which people can find right standing with God by faith. People could always approach God by faith.
On the other hand, Paul also writes, "the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe." And the Gospel of John says:
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
Paul also links this faith with Jesus' death:
being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed." (Romans 3:24, 25)
Was it possible to have faith in the Son before He came and died? The answer is that Jesus' death is effective outside the flow of time as we understand it. Consider these verses:
Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, (2 Timothy 1:8-10)
"Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad." So the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?" Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am." (John 8:56-58)
So salvation by faith was granted from eternity, but revealed when Jesus appeared. Plus, Jesus tells us that Abraham somehow saw the day of Jesus' coming.
And so the principle that salvation has always been by faith stands firm. It is not what changed because Jesus died.

The Holy Spirit is New

Now, let's return to Galatians 3:2 and its complete context. Notice the repeated references to the Holy Spirit and the opening link to Jesus' death:
You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?
Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
Did you suffer so many things in vain-if indeed it was in vain?
So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? (Galatians 3:1-5)
It is not salvation by faith that Paul sets up against works of the Law, but receiving the Spirit!
Why do we not see this?
· The Reformation rightly restored the doctrine of salvation by faith against the Roman Catholic system of works and salvation through the Church. Unfortunately, it did not also restore the critical role of the Holy Spirit.
· Controversy over doctrines like the "baptism of the Holy Spirit" and the wild excesses of Pentecostalism make us wary of exploring the gift of the Holy Spirit.
· The King James translation refers to Him as the "Holy Ghost," which is confusing at best and spooky at worst. Plus, since the KJV was not consistent in translating pneuma as ghost and, so, implicitly disconnected concepts that should have been connected. Here is just one example:
    · Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38)
    · This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? (Galatians 3:2)
And so that which should be front and center in our Christian world view operates in the background.
I intend to show that the presence of the Holy Spirit in the believer is that which principally changed because Jesus died. The implications of this fact are enormous. You need not fear that I will raise controversy by promoting tongues or "renewal" or a separate experience subsequent to "salvation." Rather, I wish to show you that the Spirit is what brings power to the gospel message:
· By the Holy Spirit, we are made a new creation. We are made different from the inside out.
· By the Holy Spirit, we have intimate access to the Father even in times of temptation and failure.
· By the Holy Spirit, we have unity, power and gifts to do Jesus' work on earth.
See-the above list contains no surprises. But here is the change: No saint in the Old Testament had this. None! The Holy Spirit came on individuals like Samson and David, but He did not indwell and His presence was often temporary. And so when we read about the activity of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament we are reading about what changed when Jesus died.
Let's look at the evidence:

John the Baptist

John the Baptist was the prophet who prepared the cultural soil for Jesus' ministry. He spoke of sin and performed a baptism oriented around repentance from sin. But notice how he describes what Jesus will accomplish:
"As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." (Matthew 3:11)
"I baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." (Mark 1:8)
John answered and said to them all, "As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." (Luke 3:16)
"I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, `He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.'" (John 1:33)
Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, "Which," He said, "you heard of from Me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." (Acts 1:4-5)
Each of the four gospels quotes John as saying that Jesus is coming to baptize us in the Holy Spirit. For John this was the key distinction between himself and Jesus. As the forerunner, it fell to him to explain why Jesus would be different from what came before. That difference was that He would baptize us with Holy Spirit. Jesus then underscores this by referencing John's baptism and the soon coming Holy Spirit.

Jesus before His Death

Just before His arrest and execution, Jesus told His disciples why it was good that He was going to die:
But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. (John 16:7)
And who is this helper? Jesus has already mentioned Him several times:
I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. (John 14:16-17)
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. (John 14:26)
When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me, (John 15:26)
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you. (John 16:13-15)
John the Baptist connected Jesus' coming with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Jesus now connects His death with the coming of the Holy Spirit. It will not be in the Old Testament sense: "abides with you." It will be in a new sense: "will be in you."

Jesus before His Ascension

Here are Jesus' last words before He went to the Father. Remember that He told His disciples that if He went away He would "ask the Father and He will give you another Helper."
Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, "Which," He said, "you heard of from Me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." (Acts 1:4-5)
"...but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. (Acts 1:8-9)
His last words were the promise of that the Holy Spirit would come.

Pentecost

The Jewish feast of Pentecost is the day that the Holy Spirit came and a New Covenant was born. The event, in context, reveals the magnitude of the New Covenant that is ours because Jesus died. But first, please note how Paul's words to the Galatians are consistent with the core theme of John the Baptist's preaching and Jesus' promises at the end of His ministry. Paul asked the Galatians, "did you receive the Spirit by works of the law, or by hearing with faith?" It would seem that the giving of the Holy Spirit is the key distinctive of Christianity and the fundamental change that occurred because Jesus died.
Few Gentiles understand what the Jewish feast of Pentecost is about. It is a major Jewish holiday that occurs about 50 days after Passover-hence the Greek designation Pentecost. To the Jews, it is known as Shavuot and it is based on an historical event with the following time marker:
In the third month after the sons of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that very day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. (Exodus 19:1)
"In the third month:" The sons of Israel left Egypt the day after they ate the Passover lamb. Passover was on Nisan 15. Add 50 or so days and you are in the month of Sivan, the 3rdmonth. Nisan is the first month, Iyar is the second and Sivan is the third.
Here is the event:
The Lord also said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments; and let them be ready for the third day, for on the third day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.
"You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, `Beware that you do not go up on the mountain or touch the border of it; whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether beast or man, he shall not live.' When the ram's horn sounds a long blast, they shall come up to the mountain."
So Moses went down from the mountain to the people and consecrated the people, and they washed their garments. He said to the people, "Be ready for the third day; do not go near a woman."
So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain and a very loud trumpet sound, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the Lord descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently.
When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him with thunder. (Exodus 19:10-19)
Immediately after these things the Lord speaks the Ten Commandments to the children of Israel to which they respond:
All the people perceived the thunder and the lightning flashes and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood at a distance. Then they said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak to us, or we will die." (Exodus 20:18-19)
This is the grand beginning of the Mosaic Covenant based on law.
· God's presence rested on a mountain. There was smoke, fire, thunder and a loud trumpet blast.
· There was a barrier in front of the mountain to keep the people at a safe distance. It was not needed. No one dared come close.
· God's speaking put the people in mortal fear for their very lives.
The holy and perfect God meets the people who are morally flawed. No one can draw close. They must be kept apart.
After Jesus came and He died, a new noisy and fiery Pentecost played out:
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. (Acts 2:1-4)
In the first Pentecost a single fire descended on Mt. Sinai and the people backed off and remained at a distance. In the second Pentecost, the fire came and split up, rested on, and then filled each believer in the room. In the first Pentecost, God spoke from the mount. In the second Pentecost, God spoke through the believers by the Holy Spirit. Because Jesus died, the holy, distant, and fearful God now lives in men and women of faith. This is a monumental change brought about by Jesus' death. To meditate on the two events is to see the magnitude of the change. The distant terrifying God is now near and intimate.

The First Sermon

John the Baptist heralded Jesus as the one who would baptize in the Spirit. Jesus tied the coming the Spirit with His death. Pentecost shows us the significance of the Spirit in bringing the presence of God to men and women. It is not surprising that the first sermon was Spirit centric:
For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day;
but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel: `And it shall be in the last days,' God says, `That I will pour forth of My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams; ...'(Acts 2:15-17)
Then, at the end of the sermon:
Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?"
Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:37-38)
The 3,000 Jews that day repented and received the forgiveness of their sins, but they also received something no Old Testament saint ever received. They received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Now note again the words of Paul in Galatians:
You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?
Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
Did you suffer so many things in vain-if indeed it was in vain?
So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? (Galatians 3:1-5)

Old Testament Promises

In Acts 1:4, Jesus referred to Holy Spirit as "what the Father has promised" and Peter quoted a promise in Joel about a coming era of the Spirit. Joel is not the only reference that is relevant. Understanding the others will help us understand the significance of the Holy Spirit in the life of a Christian.
In the days of Jeremiah and Ezekiel, the Mosaic Covenant of law brought the curses on the people. The people had failed to earn the promised blessings. Both, Jeremiah and Ezekiel received words of a coming change.
Here is Jeremiah:
"Behold, days are coming," declares the Lord, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them," declares the Lord.
"But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the Lord, "I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, `Know the Lord,' for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them," declares the Lord, "for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." (Jeremiah 31:31-34; and quoted in Hebrews 8:8-12)
Now here is Ezekiel:
"Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances." (Ezekiel 36:26-27)
Jeremiah indicates that the means by which the New Covenant will come about is forgiveness, "...for I will forgive their iniquity." That is, the New Covenant is not about forgiveness, it is mediated by forgiveness. The forgiveness of sin that came about because Jesus died is extraordinarily deep.
But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:11-14)
"Cleansing of the flesh" removes the stain of committed sin without affecting the underlying cause. But Jesus' death brought about a "cleansing" of the "conscience" - that mechanism within that prompts us to choose right paths.
Peter, arguing against Gentile circumcision before the Jerusalem council said this:
After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, "Brethren, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and believe. And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us; and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith." (Acts 15:7-9)
And earlier, Peter had had this exchange with the Jewish believers:
"And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, `John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' Therefore if God gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?"
When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God, saying, "Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life." (Acts 11:16-18)
"Repentance that leads to life" i.e. the new creation, law written on the heart, the fruit of the Spirit. The blood of Jesus provided a deep cleansing of the heart/conscience by which the Holy Spirit may indwell us. The goal of Jesus' death was not our forgiveness, the goal was the baptism of the Holy Spirit this forgiveness made possible.

1. By the Holy Spirit, we are a new creation

If you examine the typical presentation of the gospel, it will emphasize the forgiveness of sin and perhaps address knowing God and being in relationship. Strangely, Jeremiah's notion of "writing law on the heart" is absent from most gospel presentations. But Paul makes this connection and links it to the operation of the Holy Spirit:
being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. Such confidence we have through Christ toward God. (2 Corinthians 3:3-4)
Then there is Ezekiel's new heart-or as Paul puts it-a new creation:
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
The fundamental problem with the Mosaic Covenant of law is that the promise of blessing and the threat of cursing are not sufficient to change the human heart. Jeremiah stated it well when he said, "The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it?" (Jeremiah 17:9) Think of someone who is angry or jealous. Is the heart issue corrected by telling that one, "Now don't be angry?" or "Beware the green eyed monster?" Would it not often increase the very thing it meant to change? This is the weakness of law; it only identifies sin, but does not promote changed behavior. But the promise of the New Covenant and a New Spirit mean just this thing-change and the ability to be better people.
The Holy Spirit is the active agent of change in the believer and works directly against the natural heart. Paul writes:
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16)
And:
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)
The operation of the Holy Spirit writing law on our hearts goes beyond keeping us from murder and stealing. If I, by the Holy Spirit, have learned to "love my neighbor" and even to "love my enemies," of what need is there for the commandment "Do not murder?" If I, by the Holy Spirit, have become generous and kind, of what need is there for the commandment, "Do not steal?" If I, by the Holy Spirit, have become faithful in all my dealings, of what need is there for the commandment, "Do not commit adultery?" The action of the Holy Spirit is to create positive goodness in our hearts in increasing measure. As such it is much greater than the mere commandment that prohibits bad behavior.
Look at what Paul writes in Romans concerning the Holy Spirit and our character:
For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:3-4)
...for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. (Romans 8:13-17)
The Old Testament saints did not have this. This is new. It is time we emphasized this. Our characters can change from within by the action of the Holy Spirit writing God's ways on our hearts.

2. By the Holy Spirit, we have intimate access to the Father

Think back to Mt. Sinai with its boundaries and terror brought about by the close presence of God and how different it was on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came.
Here is another picture. Think of the High Priest approaching the Mercy Seat in the Holy Place during the Day of Atonement:
· He had to be a man.
· He had to be descended from Aaron.
· He could only approach once a year.
· He had to carry blood for his sins and the sins of the people.
The Holy of Holies in the temple was off limits to all but a handful of men through the centuries. When Jesus died, that changed. According the writer of Hebrews:
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:14-16)
The "throne (seat) of grace (mercy)" is the mercy seat in heaven as can be seen from this parallel passage-also in Hebrews:
Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. (Hebrews 10:19-22)
Unlike the singular ancient high priest who had access to a copy of the Holy Place, because Jesus died we have:
· Access to the real Holy Place in heaven.
· It is open to Jews and Gentiles.
· It is open to men and women.
· It is there in "time of need" i.e. when we are tempted or even in the midst of sin. In other words, our weakness is no longer something that separates us from God and the help that He brings.
As you might guess, the Holy Spirit has a role in our access:
In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27)
If you need a good illustration for this access, consider the meeting between Jesus and the Samaritan woman (John 4). Here is the critical point in the narrative:
He said to her, "Go, call your husband and come here."
The woman answered and said, "I have no husband."
Jesus said to her, "You have correctly said, `I have no husband'; for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly." (John 4:16-18)
Ultimately, the woman's response to this exchange was this:
"Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?" (John 4:29)
Jesus had brought the woman into His space. He revealed that He knew her dirty secrets. How was it that she felt safe? We say that God loves sinners with an unconditional love, but this story takes that concept deeper. Jesus never met a sinner He did not like! He is on our side. He's for us-not in a condescending way, but in a way of friendship. The Holy Spirit does for us, what Jesus did for the Samaritan woman, Zaccheus (Luke 19:1-10), Matthew and his friends (Matthew 9:9-13), the woman sinner at Simon's house who anointed Jesus' feet (Luke 7:36-50), and others. We meet, we feel safe, we draw close, and we are changed.

3. By the Holy Spirit, we have unity, power and gifts to do Jesus' work on earth.

Jesus said that we would receive power by the Holy Spirit and Paul writes:
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. (1 Corinthians 12:4-7)
...
But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills. (1 Corinthians 12:11)
Because Jesus' death has provided us with the Holy Spirit each of us can expect to have a manifestation of the Holy Spirit by which we advance the ministry of Jesus on earth. Paul goes on to say that by the Holy Spirit we are collectively the body of Christ:
For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:12-13)
When Jesus was on earth, His ministry was, except for a few remote healings, geographically limited. When He taught, He could be heard by those who were present, not those in the next town. When He commanded the dead to rise, he and the corpse were in the same place. When he cast out a demon, demons in other locales were safe. He brought the words, power, and presence of God, but being the Word made flesh, that presence was localized. But when the Holy Spirit came, believers began to do things in Jesus' name by the power and gifting of the Holy Spirit. As we believers, filled with the Holy Spirit, disperse across the globe, so does the work of Jesus Christ.
Jesus said:
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it." (John 14:12-14)
Asking in "Jesus' Name" is not a magical incantation that we add to the end of our prayers. It is doing His work in such a way that He gets the credit. Filled with the Holy Spirit, manifesting His gifts, and yielding to His guidance, we are Jesus' work and ministry on the earth. Look at 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 again and note that work of each person in the trinity:
· Variety of effects, but the same God (Father). To me this indicates that the Father desires to do something on the earth, and calls upon the Son who sets up...
· A variety of ministries, but the same Lord (Son). And these ministries do their work by
· A variety of gifts, but the same Spirit.
All this is new. We are the people of God: we know Him; by the Holy Spirit we get to see what He is doing; and with manifestations of the Holy Spirit, we do Jesus' work on earth.

Practical Matters

There are three things that need to be done. First and foremost, we must make this truth a personal reality. We must walk by the Holy Spirit as a counter to our sin nature. We must confidently approach God and understand that we are safe because He wants to help. We must seek the gifts and manifestations of the Holy Spirit as the means by which we serve in Jesus' Name.
Second, we must include the gift of the Holy Spirit as a key part of the gospel. Salvation by faith existed in the days of Abel and the deep forgiveness offered by the death of Jesus' is the means by which the Holy Spirit is given to us. Here is an example:
The Bible tells us that we were made in the image of God. Since God is a person who creates and communicates, we are creatures who create and communicate. Since we share these things with God and their origin is with Him, our greatest satisfaction and purpose come from being in relationship to Him as His people. Unfortunately, our personalities all become warped by an inner selfishness that separates us from that relationship. In seeking our own paths, we do damage to others and to His creation. No amount of will power or self-help manuals can correct this core problem which the Bible calls sin. Jesus came to show us God's love and intention to fix our sin so that we can have a relationship with God. His life showed us that God loved us and His death provided forgiveness for our sinful ways and gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit to bring God's life into ours. When we repent of our sins and believe that Jesus died and rose again, we can receive the Holy Spirit who will gradually change us into people of love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, gentleness, and self-control as we allow Him to fill us. We become God's children and can become disciples of Jesus Christ and help do His work on earth through gifts that the Holy Spirit gives us. When we die, we will be completely healed of our sinful ways and be in God's company forever.
This better aligns with Jeremiah 31:31-34 than most gospel presentations. It is also centered on relationship with God rather than heaven as the goal of the gospel, puts the Holy Spirit in the center, and provides a promise of worthwhile change in this life.
Third, we must better incorporate the Holy Spirit in our teaching. This is especially so regarding the Christian life.
· Power to approach
    · Acts 2 vs. Exodus 19: It is no longer appropriate to speak of a Holy God from whom we are separate because of sin. Jesus has provided such a deep cleansing by His death and blood, that God is always approachable by those who want to draw near. The woman at the well is a better model for how God now engages men and women.
    · We have confident access to the throne of grace in time of need. We have confident access to the Holy Place and the presence of God by the blood of Jesus Christ.
    · Paul writes in Romans 8 that contrary to having a spirit of slavery and fear, we have a Spirit that informs us that we our children of God whom we may address is as "abba:" a endearing form of "father."
    · In the gospels, sinners felt safe in the presence of Jesus. Our churches, if they are to do Jesus' work on earth, must strive to do the same. A correct understanding of the Holy Spirit allows us to welcome sinners without compromising godly standards.
· Power to change
    · Does our teaching imply the use of will power to avoid sin? Do we use terms like "obeying the 10 commandments?" Would it not be better to focus on the work of the Holy Spirit to bring forth genuinely godly behavior? I can obey one of the commandments by not murdering anyone today, but have I actually set aside my self-interest to love someone today? Let's teach how to walk by the Spirit.
· Power to serve
    · Does our teaching separate clergy and laity? Do we model ministry by staff and professionals? Why should we not rather encourage the active participation of all Christians to seek gifts of service from the Holy Spirit?
Here's the end of the matter. The gospel has power! Power to approach. Power to change. Power to serve. We need to expect more.
