WHAT "IS" GODLY LOVE? ARTICLE FROM BIBLE.ORG

   00:00             00:00

A little girl was invited for dinner at the home of her first-grade friend. The vegetable was buttered broccoli and the mother asked if she liked it. “Oh, yes,” the child replied politely, “I love it!”
But when the bowl of broccoli was passed, she declined to take any. The hostess said, “I thought you said you loved broccoli.” The girl replied sweetly, “Oh, yes ma’am, I do, but not enough to eat it!”
Do you love your family? “Of course I do!” We all would say that! It’s the only right answer. But what do you mean by love? So often we love our family like that little girl loved broccoli: We love in the abstract, but when it comes right down to it, we don’t want to get too close. In the words of the Apostle John, we love in word, but not in deed and truth (1 John 3:18).
What does biblical love look like? We know that our relationships in the family need to be marked by love. Husbands, especially, are to love their wives. But, wives, too, must love their husbands. Parents and children, brothers and sisters, must love one another. But how do we know what such love looks like in everyday dress?
Paul’s famous chapter on love, 1 Corinthians 13, tells us. The Corinthian church was emphasizing a good thing, spiritual gifts, to the neglect of the best. They were using their gifts apart from love. Paul makes the point that the use of their God-given gifts would amount to nothing if the Corinthians did not make love their priority.
Selfless love is the priority for every Christian.
These verses are the most eloquent and profound words ever written on the subject of love. To comment on its parts is a bit like giving a botany lecture on a beautiful flower--if you’re not careful you lose the beauty and impact of it. But we can profit from understanding the parts and applying it to family relationships.
In verses 1-3 he shows the preeminence of love, that love is greater than all spiritual gifts because without love, gifts are empty. In verses 4-7 he shows the practice of love, how love is greater than all spiritual gifts because of its selfless characteristics. In verses 8-13 he shows the permanence of love, that love is greater than all spiritual gifts because it outlasts them. We’re going to focus mainly on verses 4-7, where Paul describes how love acts. While in English most of these words are predicate adjectives, in Greek they are verbs. Love is not talk; it is action.
We’re all prone to apply verses like these to others: “My mate and my kids could sure use a lesson in love. But me? I’m basically a loving person. I’m really easy to get along with.” But I ask each of you to forget about everybody else and ask God to apply these verses to you.
Paul enumerates 15 characteristics of love to show how love acts or what it looks like in everyday life. A New Testament definition of agape is “a caring, self-sacrificing commitment which shows itself in seeking the highest good of the one loved.” Jesus Christ, in His sacrificial death on the cross, is the epitome and embodiment of this kind of love. A whole series of sermons could easily be preached on these qualities of love. But let’s look briefly at each of them.

1. Selfless love is patient.

Ouch! Why did he put that first? This often confronts me with my failure in relating to my family. Patience is an interesting quality in that when I don’t need it, I want it. It’s when things start to irritate or frustrate me that I need patience, but usually at that point I don’t want to be patient!
The Greek word comes from two words meaning, “long-tempered.” If you’re patient, you’re slow to anger, you endure personal wrongs without retaliating. You bear with others’ imperfections, faults, and differences. You give them time to change, room to make mistakes without coming down hard on them. Do you do that, men, with your wife and children?
I read a story of a man who had developed this quality to a far greater extent than I. During the late 1500’s, Dr. Thomas Cooper edited a dictionary with the addition of 33,000 words and many other improvements. He had already been collecting materials for eight years when his wife, a rather difficult woman, went into his study one day while he was gone and burned all of his notes under the pretense of fearing that he would kill himself with study. Eight years of work, a pile of ashes!
Dr. Cooper came home, saw the destruction, and asked who had done it. His wife told him boldly that she had done it. The patient man heaved a deep sigh and said, “Oh Dinah, Dinah, thou hast given a world of trouble!” Then he quietly sat down to another eight years of hard labor, to replace the notes which she had destroyed. (Paul Tan, Encyclopedia of 7700 Illustrations [Assurance Publishers, #2350.) Next time you think you’ve arrived at being patient, that will give you something to aim for!

2. Selfless love is kind.

Kindness is patience in action. The Greek word comes from a word meaning “useful.” A kind person is disposed to be helpful. He seeks out needs and looks for opportunities to meet those needs without repayment. He is tender and forgiving when wronged. The word was used of mellow wine, and suggests a person who is gentle, who has an ability to soothe hurt feelings, to calm an upset person, to help quietly in practical ways.
The kind person shows kindness in response to harsh treatment. Jesus said, “And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same thing. . . . But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men” (Luke 6:33, 35). The kindness of God leads us to repentance (Rom. 2:4). Kindness motivates others toward positive change.
As with patience, the real proving ground for kindness is the home. Are you kind to your wife and children? Do you do kind, useful things for them? Are you training your children to be kind to one another by the way you treat your wife and them? Love is not macho; love is kind.

3. Selfless love is not jealous.

The word means to eagerly desire, and it is used both positively and negatively in the Bible. Jealousy in the negative sense is related to greed and selfishness. The jealous person wants what others have, he wants things for himself. He is too selfish to applaud others’ success; he has to have all the attention. In the family, a jealous husband refuses to trust his wife. He doesn’t want to recognize her abilities and contributions. He is jealous of the time she spends with the children or with her friends. He wants it all for himself. James says that jealousy is often the source of quarrels and conflicts (James 4:2).

4. & 5. Selfless love does not brag and is not arrogant.

These ugly twins are related. They both stem from selfishness and are the flip side of jealousy. “Jealousy is wanting what someone else has. Bragging is trying to make others jealous of what we have. Jealousy puts others down; bragging builds us up” (John MacArthur, Jr., The MacArthur New Testament Commentary, 1 Corinthians [Moody Press], p. 341). Bragging is an outward manifestation of pride.
The braggart tries to impress others of his great accomplishments in order to make himself look good: “After all I’ve done for you, and you treat me this way!” But love isn’t trying to build up me; love is trying to build up the other person. Love is humble. The humble, loving person is aware that everything he has is an undeserved gift from God (1 Cor. 4:7). So he doesn’t boast, but thankfully uses what God has given to serve others.

6. Selfless love does not act unbecomingly.

The NIV translates, “It is not rude.” Love does not needlessly offend. Love has good manners. It is courteous, polite, sensitive to the feelings of others and always uses tact. The reason we are not courteous, of course, is that we are thinking only of ourselves and not of others.
I read of a man who was generally lacking in manners. He never opened the car door for his wife. “She doesn’t have two broken arms,” he would say. After many years of marriage, his wife died. At the funeral, as the pallbearers brought her casket out to the hearse, the husband was standing by the car door. The funeral director, who knew the husband by name, called out to him and said, “Open the door for her, will you?” He reached for the car door and then, for one second, froze. He realized that he had never opened the door for her in life; now, in her death, it would be the first, last, and only time. A lifetime of regret came crashing down around him. Love is not rude.

7. Selfless love does not seek its own.

It is not selfish, does not demand its rights. Alan Redpath said, “The secret of every discord in Christian homes, communities and churches is that we seek our own way and our own glory.” R. C. H. Lenski put it, “Cure selfishness, and you plant a Garden of Eden” (The Interpretation of I and II Corinthians [Augsburg], p. 557). Selfishness is the root problem of the human race; it is the antithesis of love, which is self-sacrificing.
Elisabeth Elliot was once speaking on this subject to an audience that included some young children who were sitting right in front of her. As she spoke, she wondered how she could make this plain to them, so that they could apply it. Later, she got a letter from one of those children, a six-year-old boy, who wrote, “I am learning to lay down my life for my little sister. She has to take a nap in the afternoon. I don’t have to take a nap. But she can’t go to sleep unless I come and lay down beside her. So I lay down with my little sister.” That boy is learning to love!
If husbands and wives, as well as children, would apply this verse as that little boy did, our homes would be free of conflict and an honor to Jesus Christ, who did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many (Mark 10:45). Aren’t you glad Jesus didn’t insist on His rights? He would have stayed in heaven and we wouldn’t be saved!

8. Selfless love is not provoked.

The Greek word means to sharpen, stimulate, rouse to anger. Phillips paraphrases, “It is not touchy.” Love does not have a hair-trigger temper. Some people make everyone around them walk on eggshells. They’re easily offended. One little thing that doesn’t go their way and “KABOOM!” They use their temper to intimidate and to punish. When you confront them, they say, “Sure, I have a bad temper. But I get it all out and it’s over in a few minutes.” So is a bomb. But look at the devastation it leaves behind! When you’re angry, usually you’re not loving.

9. Selfless love does not take into account a wrong suffered.

This is an accounting word, used of numerical calculation. It is used of God not imputing our guilt to us, but instead imputing the righteousness of Christ to our account (Rom. 4:6-8). Love doesn’t keep a tally of wrongs and bear a grudge until every one is paid for. It doesn’t try to gain the upper hand by reminding the other person of past wrongs. Love forgives.
One married man said to his friend, “You know, every time my wife and I get into a conflict, she gets historical.” His friend said, “Historical? Don’t you mean hysterical?” “No, I mean historical. She rehearses everything I’ve ever done wrong in the whole history of our marriage.” That’s keeping score! That’s not love.

10. & 11. Selfless love does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth.

These qualities are the flip side of one another. Moffatt puts it, “Love is never glad when others go wrong.” To rejoice in the truth means to be glad about behavior in accordance with the truth of God’s Word. If someone you don’t like falls into sin, you don’t gloat; you grieve, because God is grieved over sin. If they repent, you rejoice.
There is a fine balance to love. Although love is kind and overlooks the faults of others, it does not compromise the truth or take a soft view of sin. To allow another person to go on in sin, whether it is known sin or a blind spot, is not to seek his best; it is not love. Love will sensitively confront and correct precisely because it cares deeply and knows that sin destroys. Love rejoices with the truth. Love gets excited when it hears of spiritual victories. Love encourages by expressing joy over little evidences of growth. John, the apostle of love, wrote, “I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth” (3 John 4).

12. Selfless love bears all things.

The word can mean either to bear up under or to protect by covering. If it has the first meaning, then it would be the same as “endures all things” (end of v. 7). I prefer the second meaning, to protect by covering. Love doesn’t broadcast the problems of others. Love doesn’t run down others with jokes, sarcasm or put-downs. Love defends the character of the other person as much as possible within the limits of truth. Love won’t lie about weaknesses, but neither will it deliberately expose and emphasize them. Love protects.

13. Selfless love believes all things.

The NIV translates, “Love always trusts.” This does not mean gullibility; it does mean that love is not suspicious and doubting of the other person’s character and motives without good reason, even if his actions offended you. If trust has been broken, then it needs to be earned again, step by step. But love believes the other person is innocent until proven guilty, not guilty until proven innocent. If there is a problem, love doesn’t jump immediately to blame the other person.
In the family, trust shows itself by not grilling the other person about every detail of his story, like an attorney cross-examining a defendant. It means believing in your kids, expressing confidence in them. I’m thankful that my parents trusted me as a teenager; it made me want to live up to that trust. One of my friends had parents who did not trust him, and he lived up to their distrust! Sometimes you will get ripped off when you trust, but love persists in trusting.

14. Selfless love hopes all things.

It is not pessimistic. It does not expect the one loved to fail, but to succeed. Love refuses to take failure as final. It exudes a godly optimism which says, “I know you can do it, because God in you is able!” It does not ignore reality. It doesn’t close its eyes to problems. But it rests on the promises of God, that He is working all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. And so love always hopes.

15. Selfless love endures all things.

The word “endures” is a military word meaning to sustain the assault of an enemy. It has the idea of holding up under trial, of perseverance in spite of difficulties. It means that love hangs in there. It is not just a passive, stoic attitude. It is a positive, triumphant spirit that sticks it out.
There is an epidemic among Christians of bailing out of tough situations. People don’t like something that happens in a church. They go find another church more to their liking. They run into problems or disagreements in their marriage, grow tired of the effort and bail out. “But,” you say, “isn’t adultery a legitimate grounds for divorce?” Technically, yes. But all too often one partner uses it as an excuse to bail out of a marriage where both partners have wronged one another repeatedly in many ways. I’m not minimizing the seriousness of adultery. It destroys trust and creates all sorts of problems in a marriage. I’m not suggesting that it’s easy to work through. It takes a lot of hard work to rebuild, a brick at a time. But God’s best is to forgive and renew the marriage, not to bail out. Love endures all things.
That’s how love acts. It is selfless, wholly directed to build the other person. Of course nobody can love like that. Only God is love (1 John 4:7). Put “Christ” in verses 4-7 instead of “love” and you have a description of Him. He is patient, kind, not jealous; does not brag, is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; does not seek His own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. If we want to love one another, we must focus on His love for us and walk in His Spirit who produces His love in us (Gal. 5:22).

Conclusion

Humorist Sam Levenson says, “Love at first sight is easy to understand. It’s when two people have been looking at each other for years that it becomes a miracle” (Reader’s Digest [3/83]). But it’s not really a miracle; it’s the result of yielding to God, repeatedly confronting our selfishness and daily practicing biblical love in our homes.
An old legend says that in his old age the apostle John was so weak that he had to be carried into the church meetings. At the end of the meeting he would be helped to his feet to give a word of exhortation. He would invariably repeat, “Little children, love one another.”
The disciples grew weary of the same words every time. Finally they asked him why he said the same thing over and over. He replied, “Because it is the commandment of the Lord, and the observation of it alone is sufficient.”
Someone has said that if we discovered that we had only five minutes left to say all we wanted to say, every telephone booth would be occupied by people calling other people to stammer that they loved them. Selfless love is our priority. “Pursue love” (14:1).

Discussion Questions

  1. How does patience in love fit in with not tolerating sin? Does patience (even God’s patience) have a limit?
  2. Love does not get provoked and yet God gets angry at our sin. How do you reconcile this? Is it wrong to get provoked about someone’s sin?
  3. Love always trusts. But is it loving to trust a person who has repeatedly violated our trust? Where do you draw the line?
  4. What would you say to someone who said, “Love is more important than doctrinal purity”? Can we love apart from truth?

THE GREATEST WAY TO SHOW TRUE GODLY LOVE AS JESUS CHRIST COMMANDS IS TO SHARE THE GOSPEL OF SALVATION TO THE WORLD!  "FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON SO THAT WHOSEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE!  THAT'S HOW WE SHOW THIS WORLD HOW MUCH WE LOVE THEM...WE DO NOT WANT THEM TO PERISH EITHER, NO MATTER WHAT THEY HAVE DONE!  WE ALL SIN AND FALL SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD!

EXPOSING FALSE CHURCHES, ESPECIALLY IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY...BE YE NOT DECEIVED!

l must admit, my heart is broken.  I love the song "I Surrender" by Hillsong and can almost sign in in American Sign Language.  However, I don't support their church.  It is a world-wide mega-church that teaches wealth and prosperity and is just another fake mega-church out to tickle the people's ears by telling them what they want to hear, rather than what they need to hear.  They teach that today's churches should grow with the times but there is a huge problem there...God does NOT change with the times.  He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.  Below is a video exposing Hillsong Church.  I like their music and sometimes listen to their songs but I don't support them in any way.  I believe as long as we personally are singing to God Almighty, He knows our hearts.  If we follow their false teachings and had rather have our ears tickled than told the truth, then that's the "real" problem.

I've done a lot of research on these new churches, some which are cults and others are cult-like and I intend to expose them by the Word of God, not of myself.  I pray if you are involved in one of these churches or follow the teachings of specific churches and pastors (such as Joel O'Steen, Mike Murchock in particular, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Creflo Dollar, and many others) that you will at least hear what mainstream Christianity has to say and pray for discernment.  In Revelation, Jesus Christ tells us to "come out of her."  He is speaking of the apostate churches.  Do NOT have your lamp removed.  God bless and learn to discern the truth of His Word.  Follow Jesus, not man!

God loves you, LOVE HIM BACK!  Follow Jesus Christ, stay grounded in His Word and lead others by example.  You are the "light of the world" and "the salt of the earth."  Salt is a great seasoning but it's also abrasive and hurts when it gets into a wound.  Sometimes the truth does hurt a little bit...or a lot!

HOW TO BUILD A STRONG YOUTH MINISTRY

My first installment in my new posts in regards to teaching our youth, especially the 11-18 age range.  I really need feedback if I share anything that is not inline with scripture.  I will try to screen what I share but sometimes I don't have enough time.  I'll learn as I start sharing this new "series" on my blog.  It's just important today for parents struggling to teach their children that the YHWH, the only LIVING GOD, is real and that they are taught the truth.  We have a war on our hands.  Our children, of all ages, are exposed to so many lies and indoctrination that certain sins are okay and that the church should grow with the times.  There's a big problem with that teaching as God Changeth NOT!  He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.  What was a SIN in the beginning is a sin today!  You parents are always in my prayers and please tell me what you need!

God Bless All You Parents Trying to Raise Your Children in the Faith Today!

"Raise a child in the way it should go and it shall never depart from it."

It's very important we teach our children how to properly spread the Gospel of Salvation in truth.  Practice with them and ask them hard questions and show them how to provide answers to every issue and/or argument they will come up against!

THE PARABLE OF THE TALENTS: CHILDREN'S "CARTOON" ABOUT THIS TEACHING OF JESUS CHRIST

I am starting a new set of posts directed especially to children under 10 and well as another for those from 11-16.  This one is about the parable of the talents (animated) with just music and without words.  I would really like feedback on any posts I make that you may find questionable.  As I don't have young children now, I don't know what works best for the new (and much younger) Christian parents doing their best to fight this war against teaching our children to believe in the God (the ONLY GOD, BTW) of the Bible.  Please let me know if these are not right, please.  Watch these with them and explain what it's about in those without words.  I try to screen them as best I can.  I do hope this is a blessing and helpful.

LET'S QUIT BEING HYPOCRITES: BY J. VERNON McGEE (SPEAKS ON "THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT"

I thought I'd shared this sermon with you before but I don't see it on the link list.  I think I meant to, as I was listening to it after I'd already shared his sermon for the day.  IF I did share, it's worth sharing again.  He's a great Bible-preaching only pastor from the 70s and 80s, before every sermon we hear online is about us being in the end-times.  Now, I do believe based a lot on what he says that we very well most likely are but it could be 5 minutes, 5 years or 50.  We simply don't know BUT if I had to guess, I say even people in their 60s and 70s may live to see that day but I refuse to date-set.  So listen and be ready for whatever our sovereign God has planned.

Part Fifty-Three of this wonderful series on the Bible.  Wait until you get to Revelation!  It is eye-opening.  I know some view that book as scary and terrifying BUT when read with discernment, it is THE most hopeful, awesome and informative book in the Holy Bible!  Don't rush to it though until at least you've gotten some basic knowledge of the OT and NT.  But, I have to admit I did cheat. If nothing else (and I WILL share this later on tonight), listen to what John writes to the 7 Churches in Asia, on how it was written to 7 literal churches at that time BUT is also referring to the Church ages.  Those who do not believe in the rapture "theory" might very well change your mind.  But that's for another post and series I plan to start, hopefully tonight!

OUR DAILY BREAD

Do as you promised, so that it will be established and that your name will be great forever.—1 Chronicles 17:23–24
David had drawn up the plans. He designed the furniture. He collected the materials. He made all the arrangements (see 1 Chron. 28:11-19). But the first temple built in Jerusalem is known as Solomon’s Temple, not David’s.
For God had said, “You are not the one” (1 Chron. 17:4). God had chosen David’s son Solomon to build the temple. David’s response to this denial was exemplary. He focused on what God would do, instead of what he himself could not do (vv. 16-25). He maintained a thankful spirit. He did everything he could and rallied capable men to assist Solomon in building the temple (see 1 Chron. 22).
Bible commentator J. G. McConville wrote: “Often we may have to accept that the work which we would dearly like to perform in terms of Christian service is not that for which we are best equipped, and not that to which God has in fact called us. It may be, like David’s, a preparatory work, leading to something more obviously grand.”
David sought God’s glory, not his own. He faithfully did all he could for God’s temple, laying a solid foundation for the one who would come after him to complete the work. May we, likewise, accept the tasks God has chosen for us to do and serve Him with a thankful heart! Our loving God is doing something “more obviously grand.” —Poh Fang Chia
Father, we want our hopes and dreams and our hearts to align with Yours. Teach us to praise You when we are tempted to doubt Your goodness.
God may conceal the purpose of His ways, but His ways are not without purpose.

LOVING GOD...DAILY DEVOTIONAL BY CHARISMA MAGAZINE

Loving God

{ Day 85 }

On my bed night after night I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him but did not find him. I must arise now and go about the city; in the streets and in the squares I must seek him whom my soul loves. I sought him but did not find him. The watchmen who make the rounds in the city found me, and I said, "Have you seen him whom my soul loves?" —Song of Solomon 3:1-3, NAS
Sometimes the Lord gets our attention in discipling us by gently withdrawing His presence for a season. That is the way He caused the maiden to repent for refusing Him. When the Lord corrects His sincere, yet immature, disciples, He is not angry with us. He still loves and enjoys us in our immaturity; however, He loves us too much to let us stay there. Although we do not always understand it, He is bringing us forth to maturity. He knows what awaits us—the glory of being His bride and the spiritual treasures that come with being mature coheirs of the glorious Son of God.
{ PRAYER STARTER }
In the seasons of the night, dear God, when Your presence seems far removed from my life, teach me to look forward to the morning when the light of Your love bursts into view and brings me into a new level of relationship with You.
Our fear and weakness do not anger the Lord.

SOMEBODY LOVES YOU: DEVOTIONAL BY PAUL RIES @ CHRISTIANITY.COM

FRIDAY March 24, 2017
A Sure Calling
Malchijah the son of Harim and Hashub the son of Pahath-Moab repaired another section, as well as the Tower of the Ovens. And next to him was Shallum the son of Hallohesh, leader of half the district of Jerusalem; he and his daughters made repairs. - >Nehemiah 3:11-12
Nehemiah had a great interest in the lives of other people; he really made such a difference. As the walls of Jerusalem were being rebuilt so were the people’s lives being rebuilt. Compassion for other people is the key in ministry. He was also a leader of great humility and kindness, which is a notable benefit to a godly leader. He also cared about each individual family. Those who joined in the work where not only the fathers, but their sons and the daughters, families worked side by side to accomplish the work of the Lord.
The ministry is about taking care of people––it is serving the people, and taking an interest in their lives, this was exactly what Nehemiah did. The people of God have to be taken care of spiritually, that is the key. If you do not have an interest for people, then in all honesty, you are not going to do well in ministry.
I want to remind people interested in ministry that it has to be a call of God––it is not a job. If you do not have a call of God, you become like so many students who attended college, who take their general classes, major in a subject but still remain undecided in what they want to do––they wander from one subject to another and never become effective.
Those students who give themselves fully to a subject, and stayed focused, later become a professional. They succeed in their endeavors.
In ministry you have to know that you are called and you need to be sure of what God has called you to do. As you rise up to do the work of God, stay focused.  As you minister to God’s people you will make a difference––big time.
Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure…

Thinking Big
March 25
"For nothing is impossible with God" (Luke 1:36-37).
It was 4:00 A.M. in Cape Town, South Africa, in July 2000 when businessman Graham Power was awakened by a vision from God that came in three distinct parts. In the first part of the vision, God instructed Graham to rent the 45,000-seat Newlands rugby stadium in Cape Town for a day of repentance and prayer for that city. In the second part of the vision, he saw the prayer movement spreading to the rest of South Africa for a national day of prayer. In the final part of the vision, he saw the prayer effort spread to cover the rest of the continent.
It was only thirty days earlier that a man named Gunnar Olson stood in front of a podium at the conclusion of a marketplace conference in Johannesburg, South Africa and proclaimed Isaiah 60 which said to "Arise and shine" over the continent of Africa and that God was going to use Africa to bless the nations.
Graham was obedient to the vision, and on March 21, 2001, a capacity crowd gathered in the Newlands rugby stadium for prayer and repentance. Soon after, a notorious gangster in the city was saved. News of the first gathering spread quickly, and in 2002, eight cities in South Africa hosted a day of prayer. Leading up to the event, young people from all over the country took part in a "walk of hope" from Bloemfontein to the eight stadiums where the prayer meetings were to be held. The events were broadcast on television.
By June 2006, what began as Transformation Africa became the Global Day of Prayer with participation from 200 nations from seven continents around the world. And this prayer movement is still growing.
It all started from the obedience of one businessman. What might God want to do through your life? It begins with being obedient to the small things and exercising your faith to believe God can do it. Our part is obedience. His part is outcome.

IS YOUR BIBLE SHOWING SIGNS OF WEAR OR ARE YOU? WORD OF TRUTH LIGHTHOUSE BLOG BY JULIE CHOHICK

" Is your BIBLE showing Signs of Wear or are You ? "

I once heard someone say, " If a Christians Bible is worn out then he probably is not."  There has never been a book that has changed the world and millions of lives like GOD's WORD, the Bible. When GOD's WORD is properly read and applied to one's life it gives wisdom ( Book of Proverbs ), illumination ( Psalm 119:130 ), truth ( Psalm 119:142,151 & 160 ) and so much more.
GOD gave us HIS WORD to show and testify of HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST as John 5:39 states, JESUS is talking - " You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of ME."  And of course in John 1:1& 2 it states that - In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with GOD, and the WORD was GOD. HE was in the beginning with GOD.

The WORD also testifies of how it was written in 2nd Peter 1:19-21 it states - We also have the prophetic word made more sure, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man but holy men of GOD spoke as they were moved by the HOLY SPIRIT.

So the next time you hear someone recite John 3:16, which states - " For GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS only begotten SON, that whosoever believes in HIM should not perish, but have everlasting life." you can believe that GOD said it, because HE testified that HE said it.  HE sent HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST to earth to be the payment for our sin. JESUS's death on the cross, was where that payment was made. The FATHER's requirements were paid in full and our sin has been forgiven. So, PLEASE, look into GOD's WORD, accept that you are a sinner in need of a SAVIOR, accept JESUS's payment for your sin, pray and ask HIM to forgive you and to come into your heart and save you. HE WILL, HE longs to save those who look to HIM thru HIS WORD, the Bible.

OH !!! by the way my first Bible only lasted me 5 years and it's in many pieces. I spent $100 for my second Bible in 1996. I thought if I bought a good leather bound study Bible it would last longer. Well, the leather cover is being held together with book aide tape and all my maps, study helps and part of the book of Revelation, in the back are falling out. So you can surmise by the way my Bible looks as to how my life may be going, how about yours ???
Your servant in CHRIST,
Julie

STRUGGLES OF A SAVED SOUL: BY J. VERNON McGEE

We all have struggles, especially after salvation.  Before we give our life to Christ Jesus, that evil thing has us right where "it" wants us so leaves us alone.  But once we get born again, drives him crazy.  So I hope this sermon helps you in whatever way you need.  One reason I like him is that he preaches the Bible but not in the way today's pastors do, in the end times.  Just good, solid information on what that glorious book says.  Enjoy!

Today's Thoughts: Not of Works, But of Faith
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:14-17
Martin Luther struggled with the book of James because he felt that the book discredited grace. After he, himself, tried to work so hard to prove his own faith, Luther came to the conclusion that salvation is by grace alone. He also realized that even our works are an act of God's grace. Verses like those above stumbled him because earlier in his life he tried to earn his salvation and to prove his faith through works, instead of grace.  It is not works that save or justify or affirm your faith; it is a result of your faith that you desire to work for the things of God. When Luther ended up exhausted, burned out and lacking peace in his works, then he let faith be his guide to do what God called him to do. The Reformation is a result of his faith, not of his work. The Reformation resulted as a work of God through the faith of Martin Luther.
As the Bible says, God causes all things to work together for good. Today, there are countless churches and denominations reaching the world through the means and convictions that God has placed on each one's heart. God works through movements in His churches, but His works are still accomplished through individuals.   That work is a result of the outpouring of love we have for the Lord. His burden is easy and His yoke is light. Titus 3:5 says "not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us," meaning that we do works of righteousness but those deeds are a result of God's mercy, saving us and then working in us through faith. Today, allow the Lord to develop and strengthen your faith. Rest in His saving mercy and He will accomplish His work through your faith.
Our mission is to evangelize the lost and awaken the saved to live empowered lives by the Work of God and His Holy Spirit. Daily Disciples Ministries makes a difference for the kingdom of God by teaching and training believers how to be in God's Word, how to pray and how to walk with Jesus every day, as His daily disciple.

FALSE PROPHETS AND FRAUDS: - 5 WAYS TO SPOT DECEPTION (VIDEO)

Please take heed of these videos.  There are so many wolves out there and I was so badly deceived that it almost cost me everything.  These people terrorized me for months.  Beware and be ye NOT deceived.  These televangelists are false prophets such as Joel O'Steen, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Joyce Myers and especially Mike Murdoch - the "seed sower preacher."  They LOVE money and are living lives we can only dream of while their flock starve and struggle to pay for their basic needs but promise them great financial gain if only they'll sow a "seed of $1,000" and God will wipe out debt, give them more money, etc.  Yes, God does bless us with financial gain as it pleases Him but I personally like His blessings more than the money.  All I end up doing is giving it back.  I give with no expectations or want anything material in return.  I give because He asked me to and I do so willingly.  Does it always feel good?  Nope.  Sometimes I'm not happy as I wanted something for myself.  However, I do love to give and always have.  I AM a cheerful and generous giver as I give all I have.  It may not be much but we barely make it as it is yet we always do.  We never go without.

I also thought of something about some of these new doctrines such as baptism is necessary for salvation, you must speak in tongues, do good works, tithe 10%, belong to a certain church or organization, etc.  IF that were true, how do you explain the salvation of the thief on the cross?  Every denomination says God gives you to your last breath to accept Him and you will be saved.  How then can they get baptized, speak in tongues, do good works, give money or do anything of himself to be saved?  NOTHING!  That right there proves these theories false.  Oh, I know the verse you'll quote...God will have mercy on whom He will have mercy and compassion on whom He shall have mercy.  Well, without His mercy and compassion, I contend nobody is getting into Heaven.  We are saved by GRACE.  Remember the harshness when someone offered to buy the gifts of the Spirit?  If we have to earn our way into Heaven by good works, tithing, etc., how much money do I have to give?  What if I'm not given the GIFT of tongues (although anyone can speak in an unknown languages...twins do that all the time) because the Spirit didn't give me that gift but gave me the gift of discernment or mercy?  Am I any less saved?  Even Jesus said that when judged, many will say Lord!  Lord! and He will tell them to depart, that He never knew them.  So how much do I have to do until I've "bought and/or earned" my way into Heaven?  Jesus Christ said in John 3:16 that whosever believeth in His Name SHALL be saved.  I believe Jesus, not man. If Jesus Christ's blood that was shed on the Cross was insufficient for salvation, then He died in vain.  Your doctrine are clouds without water.

If you want your ears tickled, use a feather.  If you want to be born-again and have eternal life, read the Bible and learn the truth through the Word of God and not man!

Follow Jesus Christ and His commandments.  He is our authority.  The only true church is the Body of Christ.  Did the Apostles build a building?  No.  They assembled together and were of one voice and one accord.  How can we stand if we are divided?  Be yet not deceived and know how to spot a false prophet.  God bless!
