OUR DAILY BREAD: SOAKING UP GOD'S WORD DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Message body

DOES THE BIBLE FORBID WOMEN FROM WEARING PANTS?

Let's get real.  The Bible is inerrant and infallible but we are given the gift of Spiritual discernment along with common sense as well as considering the times and customs of the day when the Bible was written.  First of all, pants aren't mentioned in the Bible.  Neither is the word Bible.  Also, we are told to dress modestly.  In many instances, wearing pants or the right type of shorts is far more modest than dresses and skirts.  What if you're outside on a windy day or one where it's 10 degrees below zero?  This law was to keep people from wearing men or women's clothes to infiltrate, manipulate or deceive the tribes or groups of Jewish people because they had many enemies.

As far as dressing modestly, women seem to really resent this commandment.  I don't care what a woman is wearing, no one has the right to put their hands on them (or men either) without permission.  However, when I was in the 8th grade, way back when dinosaurs were almost extinct (I think one was left they couldn't find yet, lol) my math teacher made a weird comment to us "13/14 year old women" that went something like..."If it ain't for sale, don't advertise it."  Can you begin to imagine the uproar that such a statement would cause if he said that today?  It would be awful and so un-PC (the bane of my existence - political correctness.  I may not like what you say but God and our constitution gives us the right to say it.  I am also just as convinced that because you have the right to say it does not make it RIGHT to say it either.  We should use restraint and I don't believe anyone should intentionally offend others UNLESS OR BUT -- and there's always a but, lol -- it's true and needs to be said and heard.  I do think everyone should dress showing respect for God and if they are unbelievers, then at least out of respect for themselves.  It's kinda hard not to "think" a woman is a whore or loose when they show you 99% of their body.  Also consider your spouse, boy/girl friend (depending on your gender) or your parents, bosses and even friends will think when they see you in public.  Is it fair?  Well, it depends.  Why are you dressing like this?  Is it vanity or to be noticed?  I can't think of a good reason you can't dress attractively without dressing like I see so many people do.  We live in a sex-obsessed world and it's shallow and superficial.  Besides, you want a mate that sees your true beauty as outward beauty fades but true beauty doesn't nor does true love.  Take it from someone who has made this mistake too many times to count, you will attract what you put out there.  It's all about respecting God and yourself as well as others in your life.

How many (and be honest) are a tiny bit afraid to share the Gospel with someone you don't know?  I'll admit it, I've had far too many of those moments.  Jesus Christ warned us to be careful how we treat strangers as we may be entertaining angels unawares.  We should treat people with decency, love and respect.  Turn the other cheek makes so much sense to me today.  He isn't silencing us or telling us to let people beat us down, He is simply stating that to not react in kind keeps you out of trouble and could save your life or health and if you just walk away from offensive people rather than react in kind, you don't have to worry about getting into a huge fight over a few nasty words and possibly going to jail (these things can turn so violent in a heartbeat these days) or worse, killing or causing pain to another person. It's not worth it.  However, there are times and places for everything and now is the day and hour to spread His plan of salvation.  Let them get offended.  That's a good thing.  If they get mad, you hit a nerve.  Conviction by the Holy Spirit is ALWAYS a good thing.

But back to the article I'm fixing to share.  While I intentionally left out who wrote it because I believe they are far too legalistic and demand you give up almost anything "secular" in order to worship God correctly.  Hanging pictures on the wall is to walk a thin line Spiritually.  I also don't think everything they say is wrong either and have some good POVs and insight into prophecy but at the end, the teachings of Ellen G. White is their final authority, not the Word of God even though her prophecies have failed to come to pass repeatedly.  I also don't think Jesus Christ left off any information so crucial as salvation until the last century.  I believe the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Apostles are the best and we should all strive to do what they did.  I believe prophecy is closed and no new and improved revelations are to come, only insights.  We're warned not to add or take away from the Bible.  If we do add or change scripture, we're actually saying we're inspired.  I'm referring to different Gospels, different Jesus Christs, world-wide revelations on ways to Heaven or major prophetic events. We may (or not) be given minor prophecies but if they veer from scripture or over-write it, then that's man's imaginations or what they want it to mean.  I think clarity is what we're given today and minor others but not one thing new in regards to salvation, Jesus Christ, grace, not being works-based to help us be saved or even this new doctrine of tongues and especially this Word of Faith and Seed Sowing doctrine...the Joel Osteens, Benny Hinns and Kenneth Copeland's of the world.  This "little gods" teaching is heretical that I cringe when I hear it.  Keeping all what I said in mine and yes, this was written by an off-shoot of the SDA church and I do not endorse it as a legitimate one, I do believe this is relevant.

This part of the post is written by Brenda Alexander on 6/25/17 and has nothing whatsoever to do with the writing of the article I posted beneath.  If you share, please share this too because I do not want to be accused of pagerism (sp).  This is not for vanity reasons at all. These are personal opinions and what I've witnessed during my life.  Dress uniquely you and find something that works but doesn't put you in danger cos God really loves you and this has become a very, very dangerous world.

Deuteronomy 22:5 says: “A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God.”
Like many of the statutes, this law may have been needed partly because of the pagan customs in the surrounding cultures. The Jamieson, Fausset and Brown Commentary explains:
“Disguises were assumed at certain times in pagan temples. Maimonides…mentions that a man attired in a coloured female dress, in honour of Venus, Ashtaroth, or Astarte, and a woman equipped in armour, worshipped at the shrine of the statue of Mars…
“Asiatics, when they engaged in the worship of Ashtaroth, were accustomed, according to Philocorus, quoted by Townley (in his edition of Maimonides, note 33), to exchange the male and female dresses. In fact, all idolators confounded the sexes of their deities—representing them sometimes as male, at other times as female; and hence, their worshippers, male and female, fell gradually into the custom, which became extensively prevalent, of changing their attire in adaptation to the sex of a particular divinity.”
God’s command to Israel forbade the people from incorporating pagan religious rites into true worship. In spite of this instruction, today’s Christianity commonly mixes paganism in with the worship of Christ.
Does Deuteronomy 22:5 forbid women from wearing pants? No, it doesn’t. In fact, clothing “that pertains to a man” at the time the verse was written would not have been understood to mean pants. Men in the Middle East through the history of the Old and New Testaments did not ordinarily wear pants, trousers or slacks; they wore robe-like garments. And in many cultures such as in China, women have commonly worn pants. The scripture more specifically addresses and forbids transvestism and cross-dressing.
The underlying principle certainly applies to today. Men should dress in an appropriately masculine manner and women should dress in an appropriately feminine manner. Clothing manufacturers make pants designed for men, and pants, slacks and pantsuits designed for women. The Bible emphasizes modesty, and for women, slacks are often more modest than a short skirt.
God does not intend for this scripture to be understood in an extreme or unreasonable way. For example, it’s perfectly fine for a woman to wear her husband’s old shirt when she’s painting or to put on her male friend’s jacket when she’s cold.

HAL LINDSEY REPORTS

I've listened to a few of his videos and he gives a report of the state of the world if not every single day, then most of them.  It's not so much of a sermon but rather seeing world events that occur each day and how it ties in with so much prophecy that we couldn't possibly have rightly interpreted until now.  Let me give you some scriptures and information on prophecy to uphold this.

Prophecy is and is not a crystal ball we can look into to tell what's going to happen tomorrow.  Prophecy has been unfolding since the beginning.  The Old Testament is about the Birth of Jesus Christ and how God would do whatever it took to make sure man didn't interfere with His plan.  Each generation has seen prophecy occur in their lifetime.  It is meant to be that way to continually prove the infallibility and inerrancy of His Holy Word.

One hundred years ago we couldn't imagine going to the moon or Israel becoming its own nation but the Bible said it would happen and it did, therefore proving ancient prophecy is just as true today as it always will be.  The Bible also says there will be an EXPLOSION OF KNOWLEDGE.  Even 50 years ago when at best we could get 4 or 5 television channels, if we wanted to use the phone, we had to go inside and dial our landline and long distance calls meant a lot of money.  Not a one of us could possibly have imagined a home personal computer and reaching the entire world within seconds was the stuff of science fiction.  I've always been familiar with that passage and knew it would happen but in my day and the internet?  Not in my wildest imagination.  The first computer I ever saw was so big it filled up an entire room on all walls and from floor to ceiling.  Mine weighs about 7 lbs and I've got friends all over the world.  Oh, and that verse about knowledge includes SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE as well and not just secular.  I'm reading many articles where science is now actually proving the existence of God although, of course, that defeats the NWO and OWR agenda so that information is kept hidden, debunked (supposedly), the scientists reputations are ruined and no one takes them seriously.  I don't get it.  If I was an unbeliever and one of my colleague proved He existed, I'd want to know immediately!  I sure wouldn't hide eternal life!  Of course I could be wrong but since I believe that atheism is as much a faith-based "religion" as Christianity, Judaism and Islam although I do not think of my beliefs as in any way "religious."  That's ritualistic, legalism and traditions.  Jesus Christ simply said, "Follow me."  Everything He said today makes more sense than any answer man gives.  I do not believe in the science "god" of the atheists but nor do I dismiss everything they say.

If you consider that first, time didn't exist until after the fall so God was not restricted by time limits.  He created all things and that means science too.  We've made amazing discoveries about the Bible, YHWH and proof that what the Bible says is true, I have to consider that too.  If you think that way about the "no time restrictions," and read what "the Big Bang Theory" claims is how we became into being, they pretty much line up.  God cannot break His own laws of gravity, the speed of light and sound, physics and nature.  He spoke the world into existence and said "Let there be light."  There was light.  The stars, moon, sun and planets, as well as other Heavenly bodies had to travel to a specific location in the heavens in order for certain events to occur.  Consider the speed of light, that the Star of Bethlehem MUST have been created, thrown out into space to reach the exact point so that it would appear at the moment of His birth.  Now, of course, the Star of Bethlehem could have been a large and a once in forever event, a super nova, a comet or asteroid OR a supernatural event.  We don't know but we do know it occurred.

On either 9/21 or 9/23, another once in forever event will take place in the heavens when the stars, etc. appear as a woman in childbirth in the constellation of Virgo (better known as virgin)  where the moon will enter her stomach and 2 days later exits as if the child had been born.  I know very little about it as I've never been into astronomy but I do love the night sky.  In fact, I love the sky during the full 24 hours in a day.  Also keep in mind that there's a huge difference in astronomy and astrology.  Astronomy is the STUDY of the sky but astrology is used by the occultists and/or satan worshipers.  Remember, it was the astronomers who found where the baby Jesus was.  God would never use the occult for His glory.

2017 is a big year and in the Jewish timeline, which is God's timeline, not the one we use today so always keep that in mind.  They have 30 days in each month and then every 4 years, they add a month (or something close) to add for leap year.  2017 in Hebrew equals in Gematria the year 2017.  A lot of exciting things are in God's work this year and in Gematria, Psalm 117 equals the year 2017.  It is the shortest chapter in the Bible with only 2 verses and both are about praising Almighty God.  It's a must-read chapter so go read it.  When you read other Psalms that sure do seem prophetic, it's one wonderful year for believers!  No one knows what will happen, many predictions and hopes but I wouldn't be expecting a bang as many things --- hugely important Spiritual things --- start as a whisper.  Do what you're told and work and watch.  God has it all in control so don't have any fear and remember my fave verse (well, one of many) but is "For as we know, ALL things work to the good for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purposes."  If you're saved, fear not and please don't ever be deceived by testing all things by the Bible because staying grounded in His Word, prayer, fellowship and doing good things keep us safe.  The only help we need is found in Christ Jesus.  So for all unbelievers, not so sure, confused and men-believers, take a better look and get ready.  You have the free will to choose God or hell.  No matter what, in the end, the choice is yours alone so choose wisely.

He sure does know how to link world events to foretold prophecy in a wonderful way.  I'll share him on occasion but if you like him, subscribe and click on the little bell.  You'll be notified via email on every new post he makes.  I've not found him to be a false prophet or tell the wrong Gospel or Jesus Christ!  Enjoy.

WHY?  COS WE ARE WRETCHED SINNERS, UNWORTHY OF A HOLY GOD BUT HE LOVES US TOO MUCH SO HE PROVIDED US WITH A BRIDGE...

WE ARE ALL SINNERS IN NEED OF OUR MESSIAH, JESUS THE CHRIST

WE ARE SET FREE IN CHRIST JESUS, NOT UNDER THE BONDAGE OF THE LAW!

IN ALL YOUR PRAYERS BE THANKFUL FOR GRACE!

SAVED BY GRACE ALONE OR BY GOOD WORKS AND GRACE?

There is only one right answer to this question.  You either received Christ Jesus's completed work on the Cross to save everyone who asks or else He only did half (or less) than His all.  Wow!  God's Word said He'd never leave or forsake us.  Good works always follow the repentant heart but that's because you WANT and DESIRE to do them, not because you have to or are even able to buy or earn your way into Heaven.  Our works are like filthy rags.  Besides, no one has ever defined what constitutes "good works" either.  Is it tithing (a big lie taught by almost every church); sharing the Gospel, or could it be lending someone $5 because they don't have quite enough to pay their grocery tab and you feel led to pay it?  What if you smoke or take a pain pill?  Is one of your good works removed or do you have to do more to make up for it?  Let's define it for the legalists? Why can't I do as I've been doing it since surrendering Him almost 5 years ago (I got saved at 6 but strayed but always believed in Him and felt Him with me) and that's to worship, honor, listen to sermons, sing, read the Bible, pray without ceasing, and seek Him every day of my life?  I worship on the traditional Sabbath, the same as I do the other 6 days of the week.  I'm not changing and if I want to eat a piece of ham, I am so free in Jesus Christ, nothing to us is unclean.  We can't be a stumbling block to unbelievers or new ones either.  Tell the truth.  The Word also says you can be saved by grace or judged by the law.  I'll take GRACE.  I see nothing wrong with worshiping in a building on the Sabbath so long as you know it doesn't save you.  Eating or not eating certain foods, that's a choice but if you follow the law because you want to, not a problem but when you say we MUST do it to be saved, you are lying and a stumbling block.  Remember, the legalistic Pharisees demanded that the Romans crucified Jesus.  Think about it!

WE ARE WRETCHES, SINNERS OF THE WORST KIND AND NOPE, YOU ARE NOT "GOOD"

Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23

ARE YOU HAVING DREAMS RELATED TO THE SECOND ADVENT OF JESUS CHRIST?

I like this man's video.  I have yet to hear anything that radically differs from the faith and he never claims extra-Biblical revelations or any POVs that don't line up with the Bible.  I have a question for you.  I dreamed once an amazing dream (no, it was just a dream, not a revelation or prophetic) where I got to see His return during what I knew to be the start of a huge and terrible tribulation.  People were screaming to save me, save me but I knew He was coming and I told them I couldn't save them, on Jesus could and do it now, they had less than a minute.  I wasn't hurt and the only one standing.  Some listened but many didn't.  I saw on one side the ones who did were completely healed and sitting down with the most beautiful smile and such peace.  The others kept screaming for me to save them.  I saw this pure white/golden/clear gold mist like dew but not and knew He was almost there.  I looked at the ones who got saved and noticed something odd...they were only what I can describe as "glowing."   Not only were they glowing from the beauty and brightness of the mist but it also was radiating OUT of their bodies.  I didn't think I was so I bowed my head to tell God I was too late, but thanked Him for finding me worthy to be used so that some got saved.  That's when I saw that I was glowing too.  It suddenly went black so that not a speck of light would ever be seen.  I wasn't condemned to hell but I heard God say this, Brenda, go tell people they don't have as much time as they think.  Get ready.  Well, no one knows how much time anyone has so I did tell people my dream and shared the Gospel.  He did not ask me to do anything He hadn't already told us to do in His Word.

Second, I'm also having dreams of floods, water, tsunamis or over-flowing oceans and seas but no one is hurt or scared, and people are actually running to get TO the water and not only wet but totally drenched in it.  Again, I don't think they're revelatory or prophetic UNLESS could He be answering my prayer?  I pray all the time for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on this unbelieving world so that those who really are wanting to find Him but because of fear of embarrassment, loss of family/friends, just evil nonsense in the world, they're afraid to really seek His face, especially if they're of a different faith.  I believe there is a Biblical scripture that upholds that He will do this at the end..."And I will pour out my Spirit..." and I'm really praying He's using my dreams to show me it's coming.  I'm seeing it, especially in younger teens (14-17) that were raised by rabid atheists and it's not the normal teen-age rebellion.  They're making plans to go into the right ministries, rejecting traditional and ritualistic churches and fake/false prophets that promise instant healing and financial rewards IF they just give $1,000 to $10,000 to a minister that has billions of dollars.  They are saying if that's a man of God, then why are they not helping the needy, oppressed, the sick.  They're noticing no one will go 1 mile out of their way to help someone out.  They KNOW that's not our Almighty God, full of mercy, love and compassion.  They want truth, no more lies.  Don't give up on this generation as IF it's not the end yet, they are our hope on earth.  The Holy Spirit is working hard on our children's children.  What an amazing God whose name is YWHY we serve.  I'd LOVE to hear some of your dreams.  In fact, if you are willing to share them with me and what you believe He is telling YOU, I'd love to post them.  Send them to WorthyistheLamb737@aol.com only. PLEASE SHARE YOUR DREAMS!  Enjoy the video and a few more by him I plan on sharing soon.  They are by Barry Scarborough.

ANATOMICAL AND UNCOMMON DIFFERENCES IN MEN AND WOMEN - GENDER IDENTITY 101

I shared and deleted a video that I felt the first 10 minutes were just the physical facts of the difference between men and women.  However, I have slender hips as men typically do.  I am a woman and I also had to have a C-section.  I've had many female friends and many (or most) have one or more more masculine traits.  Here's some interesting ones I found and these are secular.  It's just the truth.  I felt wrong after making that post as I hadn't fully watched it and it felt more like gossip and rumor than truth.  This first one is really very interesting and I had no idea...I will only be sharing factual information and am not accusing anyone of being a transgender unless they themselves announced it, like Caitlyn (Brue) Jenner.  We're being deceived by Hollywood, no doubt but we can't gossip and start ridiculous rumors.  He crossed that line and if anyone watched it, I was wrong to share it.  These are true and at times, very fun and interesting.  God bless and this proves that God created men and women differently but we are all equal in His eyes.  We have different strengths and that is why marriages between one man and one woman who take their vow to God seriously and are equally yoked Spiritually do far better than their unbelieving peers.  We cheat, lie, do wrong but Christians are more forgiving because that's what it's all about.  Endure because it is amazing.  Enjoy these fun and interesting boy/girl facts!

This one is particularly fun and interesting but keep in mind, these are secular, not faith based but TRUTH IS TRUTH and as Christians we stand for ALL truth.

Mainly  shows how girls and boys mature differently.  Girls are socially and emotionally where boys mature faster physically and logical thinking.  These are secular soooo, please forgive the language.  There are HUGE differences between men and women.

This one is to show the anatomical differences in the sexes.  Now, just because a man or woman exhibits a few traits of the opposite sex does not  mean a thing.  For example, men's hips and shoulders are generally the same size but females have wider hips.  I don't.  My hips and shoulders are basically the same width.  I am a woman, no doubt and never thought or "felt" otherwise.  However, because of this anomaly in my skeleton, I was unable to give birth vaginally.  I had to have C-sections.  I am just grateful they were available or else my son and I would both have died.  Unfortunately for me, it took those "brilliant" doctors almost 24 hours to figure out something was wrong, even saying I wasn't in "true" labor since I wasn't dilating.  My labor was coming about every minute, lasting 3-4 minutes and were so strong they had to stop it because they were afraid of uterine rupture but yet I was in "false" labor, lol.  Finally, I got a good doctor who did an x-ray and discovered because of this, my son was not able to do what they do to cause this and his head was sideways, not in the right position, without surgery, I wouldn't be here.  The fact is, we are different.  Being a man or woman isn't about a feeling, it's basical anatomy 101.  Yesterday I felt like I wanted to eat chili but today, not so much.  How you feel today may be dangerous and permanent tomorrow.  I hear survivors of attempted suicide say they regretted it the minute they attempted it.  We all have issues, the key is to learn to overcome them because some of these things are wrong to God.  The good news is, you are still able to be forgiven.

Plan of Salvation...

First Corinthians 15:1-11

I have a novel idea, instead of conforming and embracing and changing who we are, why don't we celebrate and enjoy our differences cos no matter what you want or believe, it will always take a male and female to do what we are told to do...be fruitful and multiply!

GOD BLESS AND IGNORE THAT PREVIOUSLY SHARED VIDEO IF YOU HAVE IT SAVED TO WATCH LATER.  NOT A GOOD ONE!

UNITED CHURCH OF GOD - CULT OR TRUE CHURCH?

Just sharing a resource for you to read and decide for yourself.  I personally don't follow it because of some differing beliefs but as I feel we should have as much information on "new" churches, I will continue to post resources and other proofs that they are or are not a cult.  I endorse few people and the only ones I trust (even though some may disagree with me on a few) are:

Dr. J. Vernon McGee
Discover Ministries (minor disagreements)
The Voice of the Martyrs
Dallas Holm Ministries
Robert Breaker (He has some very interesting opinions but not prophecies agree mostly)

If a church claims they are a "remnant church" for the last days is a huge warning sign.  If they deny the Divinity of Christ Jesus or claim He is an Archangel, that's the very basics of the Christian faith.  If they are a works-based belief church and not grace and if they put you back under the bondage of the law, that is not a true church.  Be ye NOT deceived by learning to rightly divide the Word of God, learn to discern and stay grounded in the Canon.  Know your Bible!

What You Should Know About
United Church of God-AIA

Should you be wary of United Church of God? Are they a high demand, deceitful group that uses methods of mind control? Where does their belief system really originate from?
(Includes UPDATE at end on UCG's 2010 splinter, "Church of God, a Worldwide Association.")
NOTE: If you are a former member of Worldwide Church of God, we recommended that you read: An Open Letter to Our Acquaintances in Worldwide Church of God.
NOTE:  If you have a mate who has recently gone into this group, be sure and read: If You Have a Loved One in a Deceptive, Exploitive Group

United Church of God, An International Association, is one of the major breakoffs from the Worldwide Church of God. It was founded in 1995, within six weeks of the WCG changes, by Bob Dick and David Hulme in Arcadia, CA. In December 2007 UCG-AIA announced that their headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio would be moved to property near the town of Denton, Texas that they purchased for $1.6 million dollars.1 Clyde Kilough (former Ambassador College graduate) was the new president of UCG in 2009; however, in April 2010 he was asked by the UCG Council to resign and Roy Holladay became the acting president. Then in June 2010 Dennis Luker (former minister in WCG) became the new president. (UPDATE: Dennis Luker died March 14, 2013 of cancer and Victor Kubik is the new president. Also read: Victor Kubik UsingLifenets as Front.)
(Note: UCG-AIA is not the same as United Church of God, Birmingham2 which was founded in 1995 by Ray Wooten; however, when the initials "UCG" are used in this article they refer to UCG-AIA.)
United Church of God teaches that they are the "continuation of the one and only true church of God" (tracing their origins to "the church that Jesus founded in the early first century" and following "the same teachings, doctrines and practices established then.").3 What UCG actually follows are the teachings, doctrines and practices of Herbert W. Armstrong who founded the Worldwide Church of God in 1934 (it was originally called "Radio Church of God"), proclaiming it was the "one and only true church of God." UCG believes they are "God's true church" evidenced by their "obedience to God's Laws" and being a "small flock." Members are admonished to "find out where God is working" and to "finish the Work of God" (which members are to support through their tithes and offerings).
While they say they are "a continuation of that body Jesus Christ founded," have a "distinct identity" but "do not claim that all Christians are among our fellowship,"4 they believe those in "counterfeit" Christianity (whom UCG says are teaching a "false gospel") "remain blinded to the real meaning of sin, repentance and conversion" but "God's special people" "understand the Scriptures" and "strive" to obey God's Law.5
They affirm they are "committed to understanding and practicing New Testament Christianity"6 when, in fact, it is nothing but old covenant theology given to the nation Israel (along with Scriptures redefined by Herbert Armstrong). By not understanding the New Covenant (including the book of Galatians), they are in essence denying Christ's finished work for them on the cross. (Read: The Law of Moses and the Grace of God)
UCG has an array of glossy and slick "free" literature; e. g., World News and Prophecy (to "discern the times...in light of Bible prophecy"); The Good News ("a magazine of understanding"); Vertical Thought ("magazine of understanding for tomorrow's leaders") and Virtual Christian Magazine ("Hope and Encouragement For the Real World"). The United News is the church-wide newsletter for members and their radio program is called Good News Radio Program. They even have a "Ambassador Bible Center" (ABC) which teaches the same "theology" classes that were formerly taught at Ambassador College (founded by HWA in 1947). Their TV program is "Beyond Today."
UCG is eager to introduce people to their "free Bible Study Course" (which is also online), including "Sabbath School Lessons" and a "Teen Bible Study Guide" for the youth. This Bible course (which emphasizes that "obedience brings understanding" and presents several other "keys" to Bible understanding that Herbert Armstrong taught) is one of the first steps to getting people to believe their teachings are truly Bible-based and, as a result, end up joining. (HWA also made use of these same tactics. See: How Did Herbert W. Armstrong Recruit Others?)
If one carefully examines United Church of God's "free" literature (including their free 12-lesson Bible Study Course), they can clearly discern that it is filled with mind control methods of guilt, striving for perfection, preoccupation with sin and repentance, fear, and "true church" dogma.
UCG's belief system is taught to be the "only road" to eternal life. Notice quotes below from UCG's booklet, The Road to Eternal Life, which incorporates "buzzwords" that all mind-manipulating groups use and which have meaning to the members. (Be sure and read: Loading the Language/How Loading the Language is Used in Totalistic Groups. (All emphasis ours)
"We must recognize the sin within us and comprehend our deep-rooted hostility to God."
"We see that the Holy Spirit is given to us by the prayer of and laying on of hands by God's ordained ministers, serving as His representatives."
"Overcoming our habitual sins and selfish nature does not happen instantly. It is a lifelong process, often involving great effort."
"As long as we actively seek God's will and allow His Holy Spirit to work in our lives, our eventual salvation is guaranteed."
"Will you let this precious calling from God go unheeded?"
"We trace our origins to the Church that Jesus founded in the early first century."
"We believe that this fundamental spiritual law [Ten Commandments] reveals the only way to true life and the only possible way of happiness, peace and joy."
"This is the only road to eternal life."
This is saying that they will only receive eternal life "as long as" they get rid of their "hostility toward God" (i. e., God's Law") receive the "laying on of hands" (by "God's ministers"),  "overcome" (which takes "great effort"); otherwise, their "calling from God" (i. e., recruiting), goes by the wayside; their "origins" (a bogus tracing of their history) shows they are the "one and only true" church of God," and what UCG teaches is the "only possible way," etc., etc. (Read: All or Nothing Statements (from those that have "the truth"))
The booklet goes on to inform the reader that they are to submit to "the government of God" (which means submitting to their UCG leaders over them) in order to be "God's faithful servants," and "attain to perfection." They must be "duly baptized" (by immersion); and they are to "struggle for Christ," and "strive to obey God's Laws." This includes adherence to the O.T. law of clean and unclean meats (Leviticus 11), observance of the Ten Commandments (especially resting on the Sabbath from sunset Friday evening until sunset Saturday evening) and all the annual feast days listed in Leviticus 23 (termed "God's Holy Day Plan"). These O.T. "annual Sabbaths" are "commanded assemblies" and members are expected to take off from work in order to be at services. Passover in the spring (with foot washing) and Day of Atonement (fasting without food or water for 24 hours) are two days out of the year that, if not observed, can cause them to be "cut off" from the assembly (i. e., "God's true church").
While United Church of God boldly claims: "no one is ever asked for donations"; "no offering is collected at services" and "we do not solicit the general public for funds," these are the exact same words HWA used for years through his "free" Plain TruthWorld Tomorrow and Bible Correspondence program. However, once ensnared within Herbert Armstrong's "one true church," members were commanded to save more than a first tithe. There was a second and third tithe to be paid, plus seven holy day offerings a year, as well as numerous other "needs" such as a building fund and emergencies. UCG members likewise are told it is biblical to pay headquarters a first tithe on their net income (along with offerings) for the "furtherance of the Work." To fail to do so is considered "stealing from God," yet, in the same breath they go on to say that they are "free to tithe on gross income if they so choose" and can even "give contributions above their tithes."7  (This is nothing more than manipulation.) A 2nd tithe is saved for the purpose of spending it during the Feast days (most specifically the Feast of Tabernacles). A third tithe is paid every 3rd year out of seven, and while they will give a lengthy explanation about who is ineligible to pay this tithe, members are still "encouraged" to give a third tithe to the "Church's Assistance Fund." (Ministers claim they are part of the Levitical priesthood and do not have to pay 2nd or 3rd tithes.) In addition, generous offerings are taken up on all the O. T. feast days.
Members are not to observe Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day, etc., calling them "pagan" (similar to the Jehovah's Witnesses' teachings, which is one group that HWA plagiarized from). However, birthdays are an exception.
Members are to expected to observe the Sabbath, which they say is "a sign of God's people." (HWA also plagiarized from Seventh-day Adventism (co-founded by Ellen G. White who plagiarized from others yet claimed the "Truth" was revealed to her directly by God.)
They frown on marrying someone who is not a member of UCG.
They teach that voting in public elections, while not in itself considered a "sin," nevertheless, should not be done. (More double-talk.) It's the same with the military. They are encouraged not to join.
United Church of God believes God is a "family" composed of only Father and Son, and members in "God's Church" who "endure to the end" will, in the first resurrection, become part of this "God family" (a doctrine HWA copied from the Mormons). At that time, they will rule with Christ as spirit beings ("kings and priests") in the Kingdom ("Government") of God on earth in order to teach mankind "God's way of life" which is to bring worldwide peace. Their training in UCG (listening to sermons, attending Bible studies, etc.) is preparing them now for that task that lies ahead.
They teach that they will be resurrected with a "spirit body."8 This is contrary to being raised with a glorified spiritual body, as taught by the Word of God. (See: The first heresy in the church was the denial of the bodily resurrection.)
They believe in a second resurrection to mortal life for "all those who died and never had a chance to receive an opportunity for salvation" and a third resurrection for those who have "willfully rejected the truth."9 These last ones are to be thrown in the Lake of Fire and cease to exist (annihilation). They do not believe man has an immortal soul that lives on after death; neither do they believe anyone goes to heaven or hell after dying, but that everyone "sleeps" in the grave until their time to come up in the resurrections. (This, again, is identical to the teaching of Jehovah's Witnesses' and other Bible-based cults.)
In referring to the Great Tribulation, they say, "As a result of these terrible things, some of those who survive and remain will eventually be humbled enough to finally repent and accept our Creator's promise of a bright future in the world beyond our age."10 Notice how the emphasis is placed on "the Kingdom" not on accepting, trusting and believing in Christ Jesus as personal Savior.
UCG teaches about end time prophecies and events and hold to Herbert Armstrong's "United States and Britain in prophecy" theory (see our article: British-Israelism--True or False?). They formerly expected that they (who have been faithful to God's Law) will be "forced to flee (to a place of safety) from persecution from their enemies before the return of Jesus Christ." However, lately, UCG appears to be moving away from teaching that all of their members will go to this "place of safety." While in a 2011 article they said, "God does offers protection for His people during the time of the Tribulation" for "those who faithfully serve him"11 (i. e. keep the Ten Commandments), they also said, "not all of God's people will be protected during the end time." Some ministers are now are speaking of end-time persecution and martyrdom and being in the Tribulation.12
They believe they are commissioned by God to preach the gospel of the Kingdom of God (which they say is "not only about Christ" but is about the "government of God") to all the world before the return of Christ. Herbert Armstrong stated that the Kingdom of God was the "born family of God" which would "restore the government of God earth wide."13 (Read: Why do members emphasize the government of God?)
The "gospel" UCG preaches is a false gospel and is nowhere close to the gospel of grace taught by the Apostle Paul in the New Testament (see (I Corinthians 15:1-4 and "The gospel of the Kingdom is a gospel about government!" for more Scriptures). Instead, the grace of Christ is replaced with Mosaic laws, rituals and government given to the nation Israel under the old covenant. UCG believes (as HWA taught) that the church is "spiritual Israel"14 but members must be obedient to the Law (i. e., the Ten Commandments which they do not consider to be part of the Mosaic Law). It is almost ironic that UCG should tell others to "beware of false teachers."
"United Youth Corps" and "United Youth Camps" are set up for the youths in UCG, who participate in "various international service projects" and are to be committed to "the way of give instead of get" and to "form character." (More buzzwords of HWA's.) This is just another way UCG causes the youth in their congregations to sacrifice their lives by spreading UCG's teachings in other countries in order in order to recruit more vulnerable people into their group. It also ensures that they will be more submissive to their leaders in UCG.
UCG holds services in rented halls, churches, recreation centers, lodges, etc. They have no church buildings (especially in the U. S.) of their own. Members take copious notes during services as they listen to sermonettes and long sermons, which can seem more like college classes. However, only certain selected sermons are available to the public online. There is no nursery for the children at services; parents are to bring something to occupy them with, or they lie on the floor by their parents on a blanket or pad and sleep.
United Church of God says they merely want everyone to have a chance to know "the truth." But this "truth" (which they say God has given to them) is merely the teachings of Herbert W. Armstrong who plagiarized from other Bible-based cults and aberrant groups such as Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormonism, Church of God (7th Day), Seventh-day Adventism, Pentecostalism, etc., and who knowingly lied about many things in order to exert his "authority."15 Members in UCG still believe that HWA was used of God to "restore the true gospel," which HWA claimed had been "lost" since the first century. Armstrong offshoots will always assert to have a monopoly on this "truth" and that they can "trace their origins back to the N. T. church." They teach that this "truth" cannot be found outside their particular belief system. (See: All Or Nothing Statements (from those that have "the truth").
While United Church of God outwardly gives the appearance of a "nice, friendly, laid back, non-controlling church," they still use propaganda and psychological manipulation to cause others to come to the conclusion that in order to be "fully committed to God" and to enter into eternal life they must believe and put into practice all that "God's Church" teaches (i. e., commands), and that they must not ever depart from these teachings ("truths"). Those who join UCG have cut themselves off from former friends and family members (those "in the world") who do not espouse the same beliefs. Members' entire lives revolve around "the Church."
Attendance in UCG dropped from 20,000 to 12,000 as of 2004, and they continue to experience slow growth, even losing members in many areas. Most of their new members have been from those who have exited other "churches of God" (i. e., splinter groups from Worldwide Church of God).
Former members and exiters of UCG have testified of spiritual abuse, suffering and exploitation, and having to go through a very difficult exiting process and recovery.16
Before considering that the United Church of God might be a "good church" to join, and before giving away your time, your money and your life, thoroughly check out the history of UCG, investigate the religious roots of Herbert Armstrong, the roots of HWA's Worldwide Church of God, and educate yourself on mind control and exploitive groups in society.

INFO on COGWA: (updated 9-17-14) On December 13, 2010, Church of God, a Worldwide Association, Inc., Orlando, Florida, was formed due to "fundamental disagreements" with UCG-AIA. Several thousand members resigned at this time and dozens of pastors and elders were fired or forced to resign. UCG has also lost a lot of young people to COGWA.
Jim Franks is the president of COGWA and is also tied in with (president of) "Foundation Outreach International" (FOI) in Allen, Texas. One well-known board member of FOI is Doug Horchak, former WCG minister and son-in-law of Joseph Tkach, Sr. (Read about Doug Horchak in the testimony: Still Working Through the Anger.) While FOI's Board of Director's page tells how Jim Franks and Doug Horchak are part of Church of God, a Worldwide Association, nothing is revealed about their doctrines being based on the gospel according to Herbert Armstrong. Read: Church of God, a Worldwide Association Uses Cover to Look Like a Normal Church (September 17, 2014 letter to ESN).
COGWA introduced an e-magazine in 2013 which is ironically called Discern (Clyde Kilough is Editor). It simply contains the same HWA rhetoric and propaganda. Their member news publications are called "In Accord," and "One Accord." Also read: "I See a Bleak Outlook for Church of God, a Worldwide Association" (January 18, 2014 letter to ESN) and "Why the Church of God, a Worldwide Association Will Splinter and Come to Nothing" (February 2, 2011 letter to ESN).

Today there are a number of splits; some having broken off into small home church/study groups.
3 About the Church of God, "Who We Are." (Note: UCG has since removed their words "continuation of the one and only true church of God"; however, in their FAQ, "How can I find the true Church of God?" they say: "The true church is the one that continues in the traditions, teachings and practices of the New Testament Church." They go on to reveal that they believe UCG is this "true Church of God" as it preaches the gospel of the Kingdom of God and observes the "correct day of worship" [i. e., the 7th day Sabbath].)
