WHY YOU SHOULD STOP "BEING ON FIRE" FOR JESUS! MUST-READ

Why You Should STOP Being
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? —Jeremiah 17:9
Christians love clichés. Maybe the one you’ll hear most often, especially amongst youth groups, is being “on fire.” But is that just something we say, or does it actually mean something? Before this steps on too many toes, I need to be clear that I don’t consider using this term a sin or anything of the sort. What I am asking is simple: Is the phrase, and the accompanying attitude, biblical, or something less than that?

What It Typically Means to Be on Fire

You’ll hear this phrase plastered on the A-list Christians. Most often, people will be referring to the ones who:
– Donate millions or are moving overseas
– Sing loudly at church
– Post their devotionals on Instagram often
– “Feel God’s presence” a lot (or talk about it, at least)
– Have just gotten back from summer camp and are on their spiritual high
However, as much as we may hate to admit it, being on fire really just comes down to feeling.
Feeling like you are good with God. Feeling like the singing at church is awesome, feeling like prayer is really going well in your personal life. Feeling like you are close with God.
Are any of those things necessarily bad? No.
Does our relationship with God, and the vitality of it, often produce emotion in us? Yes.
Does our relationship with God, and the vitality of it, necessarily produce the same positive feelings in us all the time? No.
And that’s the rub. Yes, if I am living my life in obedience to Jesus, in worship of him, and striving to grow in His grace, then I will have the positivity that often comes along with it.
But by no means does the Bible tell us to gauge our spiritual lives solely (or even primarily) based on our feelings. It’s a reality in the Bible that we will go through seasons of pain, doubt, failure, feebleness and loss. Not every second of our lives will be exhilarating, news-worthy, record-breaking happiness and excitement. Most of the Christian life is radically ordinary.
This leaves the standard of “being on fire” less a biblical encouragement and more of emotional legalism. Why?

Because the Bible Never Says It

It’s true. The Bible never refers to Christians (mature ones or new ones) as being on fire. It never commands Christians to be on fire. As a matter of fact, most people in the Bible that have fire in or around them are normally under judgment.
Most likely, people use this term as an off-shoot of the happening at Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descends as “tongues of fire” on the apostles, signifying the authenticity of their message and that the presence of God dwelt in man, no longer in a temple building.
Beyond that, the term has closer ties to counterfeit Benny Hinn revivals than it does to an explicit scriptural reference.
So at best, we are making up our own term and shoving it into the context of Acts 2. At worst, we become emotional Pharisees commanding others to “feel on fire” when the Bible doesn’t command it. We may not think of that as legalism, but it’s at least a mild form of it, as we’re measuring other people’s maturity in relation to a subjective, non-biblical standard.

So What Do We Do?

We do what the Bible tells us to do: We measure our standing with God by what we know to be true, not by what we feel is true.
That’s where Jeremiah 17:9 comes in. Our hearts are deceitful. They will be wrong. They will have feelings that are incorrect. They are not the authority for life: God and His word is. We can have great feelings and emotions during worship on Sunday while we still are casual with sin in our lives. Conversely, we can feel broken while at the healthiest spiritual place possible (c.f. 1 Peter 5:6).
This is really the point of Romans 1-8 and the entire book of 1 John. Truth determines how we live, not what we determine in our own feelings. In particular:
For whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart… —1 John 3:20
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. —1 John 5:13
We will falter. Our faith will be weak at times. Our affection for God will go through ups and downs. But the Bible never says that we ought to question the validity of our faith based solely on feeling on fire. John writes these things so that we may know.
The Bible tells us that we must know. Truth is more important than feelings, even good feelings of being on fire. Besides, if we base our assurance of a relationship with God on how we feel the connection to be, we will be left in despair more times than we can count.

Assurance Comes From Knowing

Assurance of salvation comes from what we know. We must know God. We must know what he has done. We must know that those in Christ stand permanently justified before God. We must know that He loves His children even while we struggle and come back in repentance over and over and over again.
Because we are saved by looking to Jesus, we receive assurance by looking to Jesus. Even more so we find all our joy and fire in looking to Jesus. Not our own feelings.
Jesus Christ is the anchor for your soul. He is unchanging, and unwavering. Not you. Lean on Jesus, not your feelings. Lean on His work, not your religious fervor and stamina. Find joy in His perfection, not your ability to feel good.
The mark of a mature Christian is not the perfect, unceasing intensity of their faith; the mark of a mature Christian is the knowledge of God and the reliance on the perfect, finished work of Jesus Christ.

NOT A FAN!

Hi all, I just wanted to say I am sorry for not posting on my blog or being on my communities for 2 days.  It wasn't intentional but life throws you curve balls OR God gives you what you need and well I committed "emotional suicide" yesterday, lol.  I'd been feeling down, I don't know why, so I watched some sad movies and cried.  I cried a lot.  The Bible says, "there's a time to mourn" so I felt it was my time to mourn.  I felt better but still down until a friend I recently reconciled with that got saved about the same time I did.  He called and we talked for almost 8 hours last night.  I was too tired to get online and today, my husband and I had a really good time just being together, dealing with issues, etc.  It felt like a gift.

I suppose you want to know what I mean by I am not a fan.  Let me ask you this and then I want to share a link.  Are you a fan of Jesus Christ?  Do you give Him the key to your heart totally or are there doors in your heart that that key doesn't open?  We say the "sinner's prayer," which is not scriptural at all and we say we're saved by grace not works and that's true.  But...are we forgetting when He told us that if we want to follow Him we must pick up our cross and follow Him?  Do you even know what that means?  We are to die to ourselves daily and submit to His will.  In the end, Jesus Christ doesn't want fans, he wants...

Completely.Committed.Followers.

Please go to this link to see what I mean.  I am not a fan of Jesus Christ anymore.  I am totally devoted and passionately in love with my Savior, Yeshua ah Messiach.  One day at a time.  It's all about what He said, Love God, love others.  You have fulfilled the law.  A great movie is on PureFlix you should see on this.  It will change how you view your faith.  God bless you all and I love you all so much.  If you ever need me, I promise I'll be here.  My phone number is 904-713-3552.  Call me 24/7.  Have a blessed long weekend.

ANSWERING THE MYSTERIES OF CHRIST JESUS

Quote of the Day
"Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness."
~Titus 1:1
Today's Answer
Spiritual Fruit: A Labor of Love?
Charles Stanley
Faith and works go hand in hand. A Christian is one whom Christ uses to carry out His work on earth. Therefore, serving God is more than just something we do; working for the Lord also defines who we are.
After joining God’s family, believers are recognizable by their fruit, which includes the services they perform for Him and for others. In fact, the Lord rescues people from sin so that they can do the work He has planned (Ephesians 2:10). It has often been said that we are God’s hands and feet in this world.
The same Father who calls us to work in His name also provides the necessary resources. As Paul said, the Lord makes grace abound to His children so that they have an abundance for every good deed (2 Corinthians 9:8). Moreover, we are equipped by His Word and strengthened and guided by His Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 2:1 3:16–17). From these sources, Christians learn lessons about relating to others so they can help, encourage, and give to them.
Let’s be clear that works have nothing to do with salvation. We are saved by grace alone through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Period. After that happens, a believer is motivated to do good in the Lord’s name in order to please Him.
We are called to act out our faith every day. God works through us to reach those who may never otherwise open the bible or enter a church. What’s more, He borrows our voice to tell His story and uses our life to demonstrate His grace and glory. Good deeds are a believer's labor of love.

FAITH WORKS HIS TRUTHS BY ABALONEKID

" I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. " 3rd.John 4

1 Cor.3:

5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? 6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. 8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. 9 For we are laborers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

FOR THE WRATH OF GOD...BY ABALONEKID

" For the wrath of GOD is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; " Romans 1:18
PRAYER POWERFUL Eph.6:18: THE GREAT DIVIDER: [king of chaos moving worldwide]

" 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;..."

Father forgive my sins and renew my fellowship today for your glory and the glory of Jesus Christ. Father, strengthen me in the fullness of the Holy Spirit to greet this day you have made in full confidence that I can always count on the promises in the Bible for these difficult times of distress of nations and perplexities ever growing stronger.

Father, I pray I can wear the full armor which Jesus provided, my Lord and Savior. Suit me up by your Spirit for this spiritual combat today. And sharpen the sword given me in His word. There is no retreat for me. Retreat is not in this armor I wear that you fashioned for your children to meet evil head on wherever it raises it's head.

I count on your promises of which these are but a few, unassailable and for all of us in your Family by Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Philippians 4:6 Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 27: 1-3 The LORD is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me,it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear;though war break out against me,even then I will be confident.

Joshua 1:9 Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Psalm 145: 18-19 The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Isaiah 12:2 Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

THE GREAT DIVIDER: [king of chaos moving worldwide]

THE PRINCE OF THE POWER OF THE AIR

1 John 5: "19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness."

Gen.3:1 Matt.4:8-11 [He is no myth]

Gen.3: 1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

Matt.4: [He rules the kingdoms of this world and is the power and mastermind behind the world systems.]

8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me. 10 Then Jesus said to him, Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve. 11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

2 Cor.11:13-14; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Matt. 24:24 [Powerful, deceptive, having great guile, most subtle, a tempter, a liar, a murderer, most beautiful, having the power of death and destruction under God, and can appear as an angel of light.]

2 Cor.11: For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

2 Corinthians 4: whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them

Mt.24: For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

STAND IN THE WORD
1 Tim.3: 6 not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

FALSE PROFESSORS 1 Tim.4:
1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

A FORMIDABLE ENEMY
Heb.2:14 Having the power of death over unsaved sinners

2 Timothy 2: Unbelievers are caught "in the snare of the devil

24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25 in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

JESUS DEFEATED SATAN
Heb.2:14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

THE WHOLE WORLD OF LOST SINNERS lie in the "power of the evil one.

1 John 5: 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. Ephesians 2: and are in bondage to Satan.. 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,

Isaiah 14: His "I will" marks the introduction of sin into the universe
13 For you have said in your heart: ‘ I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north;

Satan & demons Can Take Possession of THE LOST

Ezek.28: He can manifest through a human form by possession

11 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. 13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

John.12: He is the god of this world and prince of the power of the air and our worst adversary
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

He can influence carnal and self-confident believers and take them at will, but cannot enter them yet may cause physical and other problems if God permits.

1 John 4:4 "You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world"

Ephesians 4: But when a person comes to Christ for the forgiveness of their sin through His shed blood, the Holy Spirit comes to abide and remain until the day of redemption

30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

The weapon of a believer is the whole armor of God. Eph.6:10-18

Believers in Christ are not to fear demons, although we are to be vigilant and alert 1 Peter 5:8.

The key is submission to God and walking in the truth of Christ daily. Satan is the accuser of the brethren. Christ's blood keeps us clean .

The Lord keeps us in THE faith. IN CONCLUSION: FINAL WORDS TO THE WISE

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Those who have put their faith in Christ have nothing to fear, as the apostle John explained, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them [Satan and his false prophets], because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Of course, we must always be on the defensive against the forces of evil who never cease trying to find inroads into our minds and lives. “The one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him” (1 John 5:18).

DEFENDING GOD!

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.—Proverbs 15:1
The anti-God bumper stickers covering the car seized the attention of a university professor. As a former atheist himself, the professor thought perhaps the owner wanted to make believers angry. “The anger helps the atheist to justify his atheism,” he explained. Then he warned, “All too often, the atheist gets exactly what he is looking for.”
In recalling his own journey to faith, this professor noted the concern of a Christian friend who invited him to consider the truth of Christ. His friend’s “sense of urgency was conveyed without a trace of anger.” He never forgot the genuine respect and grace he received that day.
Believers in Jesus often take offense when others reject Him. But how does He feel about that rejection? Jesus constantly faced threats and hatred, yet He never took doubt about His deity personally. Once, when a village refused Him hospitality, James and John wanted instant retaliation. “Lord,” they asked, “do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?” (Luke 9:54). Jesus didn’t want that, and He “turned and rebuked them” (v. 55). After all, “God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:17).
It may surprise us to consider that God doesn’t need us to defend Him. He wants us to represent Him! That takes time, work, restraint, and love. —Tim Gustafson
Lord, when we are confronted with hate, help us not to be haters but to respond as Your Son did: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)
The best way to defend Jesus is to live like Him.
INSIGHT: Luke 9:51 says, “Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.” Christ was deliberately going to Jerusalem to face even more opposition because of His commitment to die on the cross for our redemption. When James and John rightly perceived opposition to their Master, they wrongly responded with an attitude of vindictive punishment. Most likely they were thinking of Elijah calling down fire from heaven (2 Kings 1:10-12) and the fire that fell in judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen. 19). Yet they missed the point that Jesus’s truth claims are submitted for human consideration without coercion or duress. As one theologian wisely said: “God is a Gentleman and will not violate our own free will.” The time of judgment that is most certainly coming has its own set time in God’s calendar. Before it arrives, each human being who hears the gospel has the freedom to believe it or reject it. God is “patient with [us],” the apostle Peter wrote, “not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).
How might you show grace and faithfulness in letting your gospel light shine today regardless of the response? Dennis Fisher
